Distilled red berry and grappa-like high tones inform the nose of the Sigauts’ 2008 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers, which from cask displays tart red raspberry and cranberry on a bright, lean, refreshing and invigoratingly saline palate. This will prove too volatile for some tasters, but I find it quite fascinating, and unlike a number of wines in this collection, it doesn’t exhibit resinous or otherwise oaky elements. Citrus oils and sage in its sappily persistent finish suggest a touch of Muscat. I envision this being well worth following for at least 5-7 years, and it is so distinctive I would definitely want to have that experience. The corresponding, delicately red-fruited Chambolle Chatelots was so unremittingly reduced when I tasted it in February that I cannot offer a useful account of its performance at that time.
