Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

(6x150cl) 2005Vinous (94+)
Good deep red-ruby. Sappy plum and redcurrant aromas complicated by tobacco and minerals. A step up in sweetness, concentration and floral lift from the Chaumes, this one boasts palate-staining redcurrant, leather and mineral flavors and a powerful impression of extract, not to mention a compelling sappiness for the vintage. Finishes dry and classic, with superb punch. These vines always produce very small bunches, notes Liger-Belair. A decade of aging may bring an even higher score.HK$388,220.00 -
Decanter (96)
Youthful and plump, with mulberry and black cherry aromas accented with earth, liquorice and floral notes. The texture shows the vintage's ripe, supple character, yet a tannic grip and lively acidity reflect the terroir’s location in thin soils on the slope above La Romanée. This wine is drinking well now, but can easily last another 20 years or more in a proper cellar.HK$311,915.00 -
Vinous (95)
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru has another rather reduced bouquet, but there is plenty of red fruit here, touches of blood orange and hints of violet and after 20 minutes there is a palpable sense of exuberance. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite fleshy with fine grip and backbone. Fresh and delineated on the finish, this is a lovely Vosne-Romanée that should age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.HK$22,105.00 -
(1x75cl) 2005Vinous (92+)
Good deep red. Ripe, complex, slightly reduced aromas of plum, currant, cherry and smoke. Silky and vibrant, with lovely lift to the flavors of red fruits and dried rose. Finishes very long and bright, but distinctly firmer than the preceding village wines. This seems to be shutting down in bottle today.HK$19,990.00 -
(1x75cl) 2017Vinous (90-92)
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru contains around 20% whole bunches. It has a well defined bouquet of vivid red fruit infused with crushed stone, a little blood orange developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, silky-smooth, almost satiny. A gentle landing on the finish suggests that this may drink early but will also age in bottle. It is a fine Les Chaumes, but not from Liger-Belair's top drawer this vintage.HK$15,460.00 -
Wine Advocate (93+)
The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Les Petits Monts comes across as rich, deep and very powerful. It boasts tons of energy and sheer texture. Sweet notes of tobacco, licorice, menthol and crushed flowers come together in the glass. Ultimately structure prevails in defining the wine’s personality. This is going to be a fun wine to taste in a few years, once the tannins have softened a bit. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.HK$129,125.00 -
Vinous (92-95)
Bright, deep red-ruby color. Exotic aromas of Oriental spices, chocolate and blood orange. Wonderfully creamy and harmonious in the mouth, with compelling sweetness to its dark berry, spice and blood orange flavors. Harmonious ripe acidity and obvious minerality contribute to an impression of drive and energy. Very long and suavely tannic on the back end. From 60-year-old-vines and it shows.HK$237,255.00 -
Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Latest malo so you can still taste the wood on the finish. Rich and with lots of fine red fruits. Just a bit tough on the end.HK$177,695.00 -
Vinous (93)
Served by Louis-Michel Liger-Belair from double magnum, the 2006 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru sports a gorgeous, black cherry, sous-bois and white pepper bouquet that still feels youthful (perhaps because of the large format and provenance.) The palate is structured with fine grip, overflowing with vim and vigour. The tannins mellow towards the finish but there remains tremendous weight and sumptuousness here. Excellent. Tasted at La Paulée in Beaune.HK$15,450.00 -
(1x75cl) 2015Vinous (94)
The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a voluminous, intense, slightly feral bouquet featuring layers of red berry fruit and possibly just a touch of brettanomyces (which for me does not detract from the overall aromatic profile). The well-focused, medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, a crisp line of acidity and sappy blueberry and wild strawberry scents toward the sleek, silky-smooth finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.HK$24,665.00 -
(3x150cl) 2010Burghound (89-91)
(Outstanding) A fresh, elegant and admirably pure nose of red and blue pinot fruit trimmed in spice and violets leads to cool and equally pure middle weight flavors that possess a velvety mouth feel before terminating in a precise and persistent finish. This is a really lovely villages and worth a look.HK$66,320.00 -
(3x150cl) 2012Vinous (90-92)
A gorgeous, village wine, the 2012 Vosne-Romanée is layered and impeccable. Dark red cherries, wild flowers, crushed rocks and mint all jump from the glass. The 2012 boasts gorgeous richness and depth, but there is more than enough minerality and acidity to give the wine a backbone of structure and pure vibrancy.HK$74,925.00 -
(6x75cl) 2013Vinous (90-92)
The 2013 Vosne-Romanée is a real overachiever at this level. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, orange peel and mint open up in a surprisingly pliant, expressive wine for the year. The balance of fruit intensity and energy is compelling. The Liger-Belair wines are all made in tiny amounts and competition for them is fierce. If there is one of the less expensive wines to look for in 2013, it is the 2013 Vosne-Romanée villages. The Vosne is a blend of fruit from eleven parcels.HK$64,695.00 -
(6x75cl) 2014Wine Advocate (88-90)
The 2014 Vosne-Romanée Villages has impressive volume on the nose with wild strawberry and a slight confit note that is nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, elegant and pure, and there is a fine line of acidity with quite a dense finish. This is very fine.HK$57,955.00 -
Vinous (90)
Medium red, a bit pale for 2005. Wild, exotic aromas of plum, smoked meat, truffle and damp earth. Very sexy, broad and classically dry, with lovely depth and richness. Still youthfully restrained, but solid minerality gives this soil-inflected wine a freshness. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and excellent length.HK$214,200.00 -
(1x75cl) 2010Vinous (91-93)
The 2010 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château comes across as linear, intense and a touch closed in on itself. There is more depth and roundness in the mid-palate than the Colombière, with plenty of underlying energy to support years of highly enjoyable drinking.HK$13,580.00 -
(6x75cl) 2017Vinous (89-91)
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château offers vivacious red cherry and strawberry on the transparent nose – real Pinoté here. The fresh, lively palate is well balanced with candied red fruit on the entry and a fine bead of acidity. The pixelated finish is not powerful but has a playfulness that I admire.HK$90,105.00 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château feels a little smudged by comparison to the La Colombière, offering scents of dark berry fruit plus wilted iris flowers and incense. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of rich blueberry and black fruit and fine salinity toward the finish. This exhibits excellent length but it will require 2–4 years in bottle.HK$60,515.00 -
(12x75cl) 2005Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (88-90)
(from vines between 60 and 80 years of age) Good full red. Sexy aromas of cherry and Oriental spice. Fat, sweet and concentrated, with a gamey nuance and good inner-mouth life. This has lovely supple fruit nicely framed by firm acidity. Finishes with noteworthy persistence. A very good year for this clay-rich parcel.HK$147,060.00 -
(3x150cl) 2014Wine Advocate (89-91)
The 2014 Vosne Romanée les Colombières is blessed with lovely pure fruit on the nose, fuller than some premier crus Vosne-Romanées with impressive fruité. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry, nicely judged acidity and good mineralité. This is a stylish and suave les Colombières with a pleasing saline tang right on the finish.HK$96,460.00 -
(1x75cl) 2015Vinous (88-91)
(from clay soil at the bottom of the hill): Healthy red-ruby. Blackberry and black raspberry aromas are complicated by a gamey nuance. Plush and classically dry, with smoky and saline qualities and a touch of animal fur reduction that currently blocks the wine's fruit. This, too, will be racked soon.HK$13,865.00 -

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée La Colombière shakes off a little reduction to reveal slightly earthy red berry fruit laced with clove and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins and a fine line of acidity. Quite saline in the mouth, with a taut, linear finish. Good potential for one of the domaine's entry-level cuvées.HK$68,395.00 -
