Wine Spectator (97)Laced with ripe cherry, strawberry, floral, spice, iron and leather flavors, this red is complex and charming, yet with serious tannins that ply the structure and lift the long finish. The fine balance should facilitate longevity. Best from 2024 through 2048. 1,600 cases made.

Vinous (95)Dusty earth gives way to dried roses, incense, hints of cedar, sage, currants and black cherries in a display that makes the 2016 Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino a very special experience. It’s nuanced and perfumed from start to finish, boasting silky textures contrasted by tart berries and minerals, but with sweet tannins that frame the expression perfectly. Its inner sweetness is balanced by bright acids, creating an almost-juicy sensation, right up until the moment you realize that your palate is aching with youthful tension. There’s so much going on and much more to come, making me wonder what the Poggio al Vento might offer in the 2016 vintage. For now, that doesn’t even matter, because the 2015 Col d'Orcia impresses on nearly every level.

Vinous (94)The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino opens with a remarkably pretty bouquet of rosy florals, ripe strawberry, and subtle spice, as the 2015 Col di Lamo evolves into a more savory display, with hints of rosemary and black olive. On the palate, silky textures give way to a savory blend of crushed cherry and raspberry, with hints of spicy citrus, rosy florals, and mineral tones developing over a coating of fine tannins. The finish is long, resonating on floral-laced red fruits and savory spice with a tug of youthful tannin on the cheek. This is a wonderfully pure, balanced, and enjoyable expression of the vintage.

Vinous (90)The 2016 Col di Lamo Brunello di Montalcino makes itself known with an extroverted yet highly seductive display, mixing medicinal cherry, pine shavings, sage, mocha, cinnamon and cloves. It’s soft in feel with a pure showing of red berries and minerals, as grippy tannins mount toward the close. This finishes structured and dry with just a hint of licorice and red currant.

Vinous (92)The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino makes itself known with a captivating and layered display of sour cherries and animal musk deepening further with crushed dried roses, minty herbs and a dusting of savory spice. It’s silky and pliant, yet energy remains high throughout. The 2018 Rosso showcases a vivid and pure display of wild strawberry with sweet tannins building toward the close. This is lifted and feminine in feel, tapering off classically dry and poised with tactile mineral tones and a hint of licorice lingering long. The 2018 is a harmonious and graceful rendition of Le Ragnaie’s Rosso that will win a lot of hearts right out of the gate.

Wine Advocate (91)The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino offers bright intensity and an elegant approach. The bouquet is redolent of cassis, dried blackberry, toasted almond and pipe tobacco. There are sweet notes from the fruit and savory notes developed over the wine's long aging period. Both aspects are nicely contrasted against each other. This wine should continue to evolve and will put on more weight with age.

Vinous (89)The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is fleshy and forward, with plenty of sweet red stone fruit, macerated cherry, tobacco, spice and plum fruit. The extracted style and accompanying imposing tannins are a bit much for the wine's mid-weight structure. The 2011 is quite ripe and intense, yet the tannins are not fully mature, which suggests heat stress may have been an issue during the torrid second half of August. I would prefer to drink the 2011 sooner rather than later, as the fruit is likely to fade before the tannins soften. Hints of crushed flowers, sweet tobacco and red flowers add the closing shades of nuance. The 2011 was aged in a combination of tonneau and 30-HL casks.

Wine Advocate (90)One of the most exotic, complex, and individualistic Brunellos produced, Soldera's just released 1994 Case Basse Riserva offers intense aromatic fireworks. A dark ruby/garnet color is followed by a stunning nose of spice box, cedar, soy, cinnamon, red and black fruits, earth, and truffle scents. Few wines achieve the aromatic intensity and complexity of Soldera's Brunello di Montalcinos.
In the mouth, the 1994 is medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic, with sweet ripeness, a firm tannic underpinning, and a pure, concentrated finish. Drink it over the next 15-18 years.

Vinous (92)Smoke, tobacco, cedar and roasted coffee beans wrap around a core of juicy dark cherries and plums in the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino. There is plenty of depth in the glass, but, as is often the case here, three years in oak yields a wine with slightly oxidative overtones. Powerful, incisive tannins support the finish.
