A bright ruby color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Sugarille was raised in 30- to 60-hectoliter botti for 24 months. It's expressive and layered on opening, with pure aromas of preserved red cherries, anise, delicate oak spice, and red flowers. It takes on more tension through the palate, with a refreshing spine of acidity, fine, angular tannins, and more mineral persistence. It packs in more tension compared to the Renina and has the structure to drink well over the coming 15-20 years if stored properly. While it might not have the same complexity as the 2019, this is going to be worth snapping up.HK$3,730.00 -

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina is made from a blend of fruit from three different vineyard parcels. The sites total 25 hectares, with 15 located next to the church, or the Pieve, after which this estate is named. The sites have southwest exposures and different soil types. That flexibility explains the smooth and seamless bouquet offered by this wine. Compared to the single vineyard Sugarille expression, Rennina is more open and immediate. The wine presents fleshy and beautifully plump aromas of red cherry, dried blackberry and exotic spice with tobacco and chocolate at the back.HK$7,375.00 -
(1x300cl) 2019Wine Advocate (97)
In my mind, this is the wine that best represents the Casanova di Neri house style. With 30 months of aging in tonneaux, it shows enormous richness and texture, and the stellar fruit quality appears with more primary elegance compared to the more expensive Cerretalto that is released with an extra year of aging. That dynamic is especially pronounced in a comparison of the 2019 and 2018 vintages. The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova has a dark vein of toasted spice, black fruit, ink, blackberry compote, licorice and star anise. Dark as night, it is exceptionally well crafted with a robust delivery of concentrated fruit and solid tannic structure. You can count on excellent cellar potential, or at a minimum, serve it with a classic steak. Production is exactly 69,696 bottles.HK$4,445.00 -

The Massolino 2021 Barolo reveals a shiny ruby color and a core of dark fruit. Beyond the plummy fruit is tar, licorice, pressed flower and campfire ash. This wine has a pronounced savory side, yet it all fits squarely into a very delicate and finessed delivery. This is a pretty example of the vintage.HK$1,470.00 -

The 2012 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is pure class. A decidedly sensual, inviting Bricco delle Viole, the 2012 fleshes out in the glass with an effortless, inviting personality that is impossible to resist. Deep red cherry and plum notes open up first, followed by the classic floral notes that are so typical of this site. In 2012, the Bricco delle Viole is quite forward and fruit-driven, with essentially none of the angular contours that are typical when the wine is young. All of that means the 2012 will deliver immense pleasure pretty much upon release. There is so much to like here. The only real question is whether the 2012 will shut down in bottle or not. This is another addictively delicious Barolo from the Vajra family.HK$940.00 -

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is simply awesome in the way it marries a gorgeous expression of ripe, dark fruit and a classic sense of structure. A rich, enveloping wine, it flows onto the palate with masses of black cherries, minerals, spices, tar, new leather and smoke. This is an exceptionally well-balanced and finessed Brunello full of character. The tannins remain rather firm but there is enough sheer density of fruit that opening a bottle on the young side is still likely to be rewarding. Simply put, Fuligni's 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is not to be missed.HK$1,075.00 -

The 2014 Barbaresco Sorì Paitin has lost a lot of the mid-palate depth it showed from cask last year. Sweet tobacco, licorice, dried herbs, dried cherries are some of the nuances that develop in the glass. Austere today, the 2015 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own. The 2014 was bottled later than originally planned, which may explain why the wine lacks the fruit it showed from barrel.HK$3,345.00 -

Serralunga d'Alba. Youthful mid ruby. Beguiling nose of concentrated cherry, dark spice and minerally, stony notes. Shows real generosity on the nose. Palate equally generous, with concentrated, juicy sour-cherry fruit lined with long, powdery tannins. Hedonistic, for sure, and so confident! Ready now but will improve. Simply delicious and definitely one of the vintage's best buys.HK$1,165.00 -

Intense nose of cloves, cedar, dried flowers, orange peel, dark cherries and black tea. Full-bodied, firm and chewy, yet polished and poised with beautiful energy and freshness for the vintage. Long, too. Still needs a couple of years. Drink from 2024.HK$1,615.00 -

The 2004 Chianti Classico is a very serious Chianti. Livelier in color and more expressive in its aromatics than the 2003, it exhibits a nuanced personality, with notes of dark cherries, licorice and minerals that open up in the glass. It offers outstanding length on the palate and fine yet broad tannins that will require a few years to come together. A bottle of the 2001 tasted alongside it was just entering the early part of its drinking window.HK$3,555.00 -

Gorgeous red, with attractive rose petal, violet, chocolate, spice and cassis flavors offered in an elegant and racy package. Sophisticated, well-integrated tannins, medium body, supple and has a long, delicious finish. Tempting now, better after 2000. Gaja made no single-vineyard crus this vintage, putting his best vats in this regular Barbaresco instead. 3,583 cases made. -HK$2,040.00 -

Wow. The aromas are really something else with red fruits, black olives, spices like cardamon and nutmeg, as well as hints of tar and meat. It’s full-bodied yet in check and focus with fine, fine tannins that roll over the palate and create beautiful motion. Chewy yet silky and endless. A great young merlot and one of the best for a number of years. Try after 2028.HK$4,220.00 -

A brightly jeweled ruby hue, the 2021 Barbaresco is super-expressive, with loads of wild raspberries that leap from the glass along with notes of strawberries, pressed roses, fresh orange, and violet. As it opens, it evens picks up some spice box, cigar incense, and cherry notes. Crystalline in nature and ripe, this next-level red delivers ripe, sweet tannins, great tension, and fresh, vibrant acidity, without any austerity. A luxury racecar, it’s fantastic and possibly the wine of the year. Drink 2025-2055.HK$1,135.00 -

The aromas of dark berries, violets and perfume are enchanting. The palate is medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that are polished and so elegant and they run the length of the wine. They are rather endless. Very classy and balanced. A merlot and sangiovese blend. Give this a year or two, but it’s already a joy to drink. Drink or hold.HK$3,190.00 -

An opulent yet tensioned young red with blackberries, violets and black olive skin character. Full-bodied. But has so much energy and focus. Goes on for minutes. A blend of merlot and sangiovese. Best after 2028.HK$1,260.00 -

Pouring a bright ruby/magenta color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Renina is generous with fruity aromas of blackberries, red cherries, crushed flowers, polished cedar, and mossy forest earth. Approachable and elegant, the palate is ripe with medium to full-bodied richness, plush tannins, and good length, and it retains crisp, refreshing acidity, with a nice, elegant saltiness. It was just bottled in June, so this was tasted quite early on, but it's going to be ready earlier and drink well over the coming 15 or so years. This wine is a blend of a few vineyards compared to the Sugarille, which is their single vineyard red.HK$7,595.00 -

Impeccably balanced with that proverbial Gaja Madias Touch that always denotes an extra level of creaminess or fruit concentration that fits lock and key with the wine's acidity and velvety tannic structure, this is a truly gorgeous wine. The Pieve Santa Restituta 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina represents a blend of fruit from sites of various soil compositions and exposures. In this classic vintage, you can count on a wine that is firmly structured and important in terms of mouthfeel, but it also yields to delicate and softer nuances of wild rose, toasted cumin seed, campfire ash and grilled rosemary. The wine sticks to the palate and offers long-lasting black fruit flavors.HK$9,280.00 -

Extremely perfumed and pretty with dried berry, orange peel and fruit tea on the nose. Full-bodied, extremely tight and refined with superb tannin quality that shows polish, finesse and beauty. It goes on for minutes on the palate. One for the cellar. Best wine ever from here. Needs three or four years to come together.HK$7,435.00 -

This is an extraordinary vintage of the 2021 Paleo that I was able to taste several times. Profound and complex, it’s balanced, layered, and pure. The nose cascades with aromas of cassis, graphite, fresh mint, crushed Mediterranean herbs, polished leather, and tobacco. The palate has a good deal of depth, but it’s focused and detailed. It has a noble feel, with a mouthwatering structure and a long-lasting and exceptional finish. This is one of the best vintages I have tasted of Paleo Rosso, and it has the structure to cruise for decades.HK$3,940.00 -

Full of tension and energy, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine that does honor to the magnificent 2010 vintage. The fruit nuances are layered and plentiful with loads of cherry, cassis and blackberry to keep your interest. The tannins are smooth and ripe with sweet overtones. The wine offers good complexity and definition. Drink this Brunello after 2017.HK$2,155.00 -

Although it takes a little while to build momentum, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino reveals fine lines and a subdued character. The wine is a little underplayed in this vintage especially considering the greater power and heft we got with the iconic 2010 vintage. This expression of Sangiovese opens to a luminous ruby color and light aromas of delicate wild berry, blue flower and tilled earth. The mouthfeel shows medium density and silky tannins.HK$2,850.00 -

Deep red. Enticing aromas of perfumed red cherry, sweet spices and aromatic woods. Clean, fresh and vibrant, featuring juicy red cherry and mineral flourishes on the long, juicy, bright finish. Outstanding classic Brunello that has the high acidity and lithe frame of the vintage but also more meat than most. Lovely wine and the best classic Brunello from Nardi in years.HK$1,605.00
