Grapes are sourced from old vineyards in the Light Pass, Marananga and Krondorf regions in the North and East of the Barossa Valley. The grapes are selected from small sections of the two best Shiraz vineyards, whilst the cuvée is only produced in the best vintages. Embracing a more European expression of 100% Shiraz with 100% French oak, John Duval his Eligo to be effortlessly powerful yet exceedingly elegant with rich texture and an impressive length.

Eligo is made from the best parcels of the vintage, fermented with submerged caps in small open fermenters, matured for 20 months in French hogsheads (50% new). The tannins and oak are built into the wine like an inlaid checkerboard table created by a master craftsman with decades of experience. Like John Duval.

Inky and bright. No shortage of colour. Initial oak varnish blows off with a few swirls. Black olives, purple plums and oak-spice - lots of moving parts. Imperious when sipped; intensely-cored with lashings of quality caramel oak. A beautiful young, confident shiraz. Built for the cellar

Duval delivers a wine that echoes the warmth of the vintage without losing the character of place. Rich, complex and heady aromas of blueberry, blackberry and plum cascade from the glass, followed by dried mint, bay leaves and charred cedar. The mouthfeel is creamy, lathered in luscious fruit and oak without either being overwhelming. The tannins are powerful but seamlessly integrated.

About John Duval

John Duval is an internationally acclaimed winemaker who formerly headed the winemaking team at Australia’s most legendary estate, Penfolds. Responsible for producing the iconic Penfolds Grange, as well as new cuvées such Bin 407 and ‘RWT’ Shiraz during his tenure, Duval is one of the single most influential winemakers over the last century.

Experiencing his first vintage at Australia’s greatest estate in 1974, Duval spent the following 12 years learning from founder Max Schubert and head winemaker Don Ditter. 1986 saw John Duval become only the third person responsible for one of the world’s greatest wines in Penfolds Grange.

Duval’s mastery in winemaking led him to establish his own winery, John Duval Wines, in 2003. With a focus on old vine Shiraz and other Rhône varietals, he makes small volumes of magical wines from the Barossa Valley. Since 2016, John Duval has been joined by his son, Tim. The father-and-son partnership continues the obsessive experimentation and introduction of new and exciting cuvées to the market.

Home delivery can only be organised once your stock has arrived at a local Cru storage facility. For example, if you are based in Singapore, the stock will need to be transferred to Cru’s Singapore storage facility before you can arrange and pay for delivery and taxes.

In Stock - you will be able to organise delivery (or transfer) immediately after placing your order by going to “Deliveries” in your online Cru account.

Due in - place your order immediately, so not to miss out, and you will be notified by email when the stock has landed so you can organise and pay for delivery and taxes.

Timings are estimated on our best available ETAs but are subject to change depending on global and local logistics delays.
