Magrez Fombrauge 2021 (6x75cl)
The 2021 Château Magrez Fombrauge has a wonderful sense of purity in its darker fruits as well as more spicy, subtly oaky nuances. Medium-bodied, silky, polished, and balanced on the palate, it has quality tannins and a great finish.

The 2021 Magrez Fombrauge is, as always, the more exuberant of Bernard Magrez's two Saint-Émilions. A blast of dark cherry, mocha, espresso and chocolate saturate the palate, brightened by lively acids that provide a measure of balance. The style leans very much into the heavier end of the spectrum. The excessively heavy bottle is, clearly, way out of touch with today's world.

A seductive nose, drawing you in with ripe fruit and perfmed fragrance. Excellent chewy texture on the palate, really quite mouthfilling but delicate at the same time. The fruit and tannins feel well controlled and while this has concentration and heft it's delivered gracefully. Clear drive from start to finish but cooling mint edges with liquorice, vanilla, cinnamon and clove spice giving a tang on the tongue. Structured and well presented. A success where they got good maturity from grapes at harvest and didn't try too hard to extract. Michel Rolland consultancy.

The 2021 Magrez Fombrauge was picked on 18 October. It has a pleasant, slightly floral bouquet, the 100% new oak neatly integrated, touches of clove and black pepper developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, moderate weight with a slightly dry and powdery-textured finish. It needs more precision and grace overall, plus there is a touch of heat on the aftertaste.
