Morey-Saint-Denis is one of the smallest communes in the Côte de Nuits, where we find 4 Grands Crus: Clos Saint-Denis, Clos de la Roche, Clos des Lambrays and Clos de Tart. A small fraction of Bonnes Mares also sits in the southerly part of the commune.
The Clos de la Roche vineyard is situated in the north of the Morey-Saint-Denis commune and is very near the border of the Grands Cru sites of Gevrey Chambertin. It is the biggest of the 4 Grands Crus (17 ha) and the vineyard is east-facing.
This wine is fermented in vats for 3 to 4 weeks and then aged for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels before bottling.
Maison Louis Jadot produces a robust Clos de la Roche Grand Cru of intense colour. It is always full-bodied and firm, with a fragrant, ripe bouquet and a depth of structure that lends it considerable longevity.
The 2019 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a beguiling bouquet of pure dark cherry and violet aromas, quite mineral-driven and wonderfully delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine grip, and touches of graphite and white pepper toward the sustained finish. This feels cohesive and long, and it should age with style for 20–30 years.
