Pierre Gaillard Cote-Rotie Esprit de Blonde 2019 (6x75cl)
Barrel sample. Tasted blind. Super-expressive classic nose – violets, sweet fruit, black pepper and sandalwood. Showing lovely vibrancy on the palate, blueberry compote with fresh zesty acidity and purity. Fine tannins and a subtle peppery smoked finish. Impressive. (AC)

Incredible, soaring, perfumed fragrance, violets, incense and star anise. Fresh and pure on the palate, with fine tannins and a little sappy, balsamic back note from the oak. The oak is aromatically quite present, lending cinnamon to the display. No heaviness on the mid palate. Very much in the Gaillard house style. The oak is liberally applied, but it works well.

Vivid ruby. Heady, oak-spiced red and dark berry preserve, vanilla, exotic spice and potpourri scents, along with earthier olive and licorice nuances. Juicy and expansive on the palate, offering alluringly sweet black raspberry, blueberry, fruitcake, mocha and vanilla flavors and a spicy jolt of cracked pepper. Finishes impressively long and velvety, with resonating florality and slowly building tannins.
