The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny la Combe d'Orveaux offers pretty, well-defined scents of dark cherry, bergamot and bay leaf aromas, not intense but elegant or "transparent," as they say. The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveaux has an attractive nose of brambly red fruit, briar and a touch of tomato leaf that gradually unfurls in the glass. The 2016 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Le Grand Maupertui is showing very well from bottle, opening in the glass with intense aromas of wild blueberry, cassis, spicy soil tones, licorice and violet. The 2017 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru may well be the domaine’s best wine this vintage. Grown in a single parcel that is 32 years old, this is a winsome Ech zeaux. It's an outpouring of pristine pure red fruits laced with minerality and sprinkled with sweet spices. Outgoing and welcoming, it reminded me of Anne's huge smile. (So often one can see the winemaker in her wine!) The gossamer structure definitely feels rather Vosne-like, even though this second smallest climat sits just about in the heart of Ech zeaux. 2023-36HK$12,215.00 -

Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Clos Vougeot. Deeper aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, flinty smoky minerality and pepper, along with a whiff of gamey reduction. Bigger, broader and sweeter than the Clos Vougeot, and amazingly supple and plump for a grand cru from this vintage, without any loss of shape. The back end is like a booster rocket of fruits and flowers, which cover the wine's acidity and noble tannins today. I'd love to taste this next to the Clos Vougeot in ten years' time.HK$10,700.00 -

The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru reveals a lovely bouquet of Asian spices, plums, raspberries and rose petal, with only subtle hints of the savory nuances of soil and espresso to come with bottle age. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with satiny tannins and a broad, open-knit profile. This is a precocious, dramatic Richebourg in the making, and while it will never rival the depth and concentration Gros achieved in 2016 and 2015, it will certainly turn heads in its youth.HK$45,825.00 -

Blackberries and black currants mesh with violets and sweet herbs on the nose. The palate turns a bit darker with fresh mushrooms and damp earth. There's even an exotic whiff of incense. There is terrific sap and energy here with lean, svelte tannins and racy acidity aplenty for longevity. The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru has a beautifully-defined bouquet, dark berries with lots of undergrowth, light shaved black truffle aromas. The mineralité shines through here. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, crisp and quite linear for a Richebourg. The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux comes from a single 0.39-hectare parcel. This has a lovely bouquet of pure dark cherry fruit, cassis and subtle violet aromas that pinpoint the commune.
