Decanter (97)The Dugat-Py family have nearly 1ha of Charmes-Chambertin, divided two-thirds to one between Charmes itself and Mazoyères. Picked early, this is a serious, textured, wild-herb-scented wine, beautifully crafted to combine structure with fruit weight, supported by acidity and adroitly handled new wood. |

Vinous (89-91)The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles 1er Cru has an intense black cherry and raspberry coulis scented bouquet, plenty of concentration here, unsurprising since the old vines yielded around 25hl/ha. The palate is well balanced. The 50% whole bunches are neatly integrated, with slightly chewy tannin and a citrus, quite focused orange rind-tinged finish. |

Burghound (89-91)A top note of herbal tea sits atop the pretty aromas of dark berry, floral and a whiff of humus that is very Gevrey in character. The sleek, intense and well-detailed middle weight flavors are not as dense as they usually are but they possess lovely depth and persistence on the somewhat austere bitter cherry pit-inflected finish. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from three parcels of vines up to 90-year old and matures entirely in new oak with around 90% whole bunch fruit. It has a wonderful bouquet with expressive red fruit suffused with minerals, hints of marmalade and quince developing in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a little more backbone and structure than the Mazoyères-Chambertin, perhaps just a little more heaviness, yet very persistent and with ample freshness. It will need a decade in bottle. |
