Château Canon
Château Canon is a Premier Cru Classé (B) estate in Saint Émilion. It is located in a prime position on the top of the Saint Émilion limestone plateau overlooking the village itself. In 1760 is was acquired by a real pirate called Jacques Kanon. And soon afterwards Canon became established as a leading wine-producing estate. The key event in its modern history came in 1996 when Canon was acquired by Alain Wertheimer and Gerard Wertheimer, owners of the famous luxury goods manufacturer Chanel. The brothers financed a huge modernisation and investment programme, which is directly responsible for the string of fabulous recent vintages. The 34 ha is planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Visitors to Chateau Canon can explore an amazing series of caves directly beneath the vines!

While I love the bold, rich, seductive nature of the 2015, this 2016 kicks it up a notch in terms of polish, precision, depth and persistence. Most notably, the superbly ripe, exquisitely fine-grained tannins on this 2016 bring to the table a whole other level of sophistication. Bravo! |
