    Bright red. Sexy, high-toned aromas of strawberry, raspberry, crushed-stone minerality, rose petal and truffle, complicated by an exotic suggestion of white fruits (Claude de Nicolay compared it to a riesling!). Wonderfully perfumed and stylish, with bright acidity giving definition and lift to the strawberry and rose petal flavors, with the exotic quality carrying through in the mouth. More youthfully imploded than the Bressandes, but the tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's perfume to fill the mouth and linger.

    Once again there is a sufficient amount of reduction to warrant a thorough aeration. By contrast there is a lovely vibrancy and freshness in the mouth with plenty of sauvage character present on the velvety and caressing big-bodied and muscular flavors that coat the mouth thanks to the abundance of dry extract that also serves to buffer the very firm tannins on the moderately austere, serious and hugely long finish. As good as this is though it's not clear at this very early juncture whether it will ultimately surpass the Bressandes. Still, both possess outstanding development potential and are of first-rate quality.

    Full, dark red. Urgent primary red fruit and sandalwood aromas suggest a distinctly exotic carbonic maceration quality that reminded me of Beaujolais. More classic on the palate: broad, spicy and dry, with superb aromatic perfume to the flavors of red fruits, earth and crushed stone. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and a captivating light touch.

    (vinified with 30% whole clusters; this finished its malolactic fermentation in August): Bright, dark red. Aromas of cherry, flowers, spices and pepper are lifted by a pungent limestone topnote. Juicy, sappy and sweet; more evolved and showy today owing to the earlier malo. The building tannins are firm but elegant and not at all dry, with the finish delivering lovely length and grip. I like the influence of the stems here.

The palate is well balanced, quite primal and grapey and is missing some mineralité towards the finish and as such, I suspect this will be suited for early consumption.

    A blend of older vines or pinot fin from slightly younger ones. Vibrant magical purple, then the most gorgeous bouquet with a wonderful level of distinction and elegance from this great vineyard. Dark fruit throughout, very stylish, white pepper and spice, perhaps a touch of blackcurrant in with the raspberry, but this is brilliantly done and entirely balanced. The silkiest of tannins.     The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru has a pure, perfumed bouquet with scents of raspberry and peony, the 100% whole bunch barely perceptable. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, a fine bead of acidity, cohesive with fine backbone and a slightly peppery, clove-tinged finish. Wonderful.
