Joseph Roty
An augmentation of Domaine Joseph and Philipe Roty, they are not swayed by current trends. They do not sell their wine until it is bottled so they are always a vintage behind the market. Joseph had a cult following amongst Burgundy fans and he has passed his style of rich powerful wines onto his son.

Jancis Robinson (18)Sweet, spicy nose. Very intense. Great polished tannins. Super-serious and bone dry. Tastes like essence of a wood-panelled room, somehow. (And I don’t mean wood panelling with TCA as in Middle Temple.) Very much for the patient. |

Wine Advocate (94-96)The 2014 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, from vines planted by Charles Roty at the beginning of the 20th century, has a very refined bouquet, very elegant, much more understated than recent vintages from Roty; it has hints of menthol and violets infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannin, very silky in the mouth with a keen thread of acidity maintaining tension and poise. This is very seductive, very sophisticated and a great wine from Roty. |
