    Ghislaine Barthod's two parcels of Charmes are both in the more southerly part of the premier cru and can make one of the more reticent wines in her line up. That's far from the case here though, as this is all about rose petal and summer berry aromas with bright, vivacious acidity, subtle 30% new oak integration and a sweet, lingering finish.

    Dark red. Deep, ripe aromas of briary black raspberry, dark chocolate and minerals. Very intensely flavored and solidly structured; rather cool dark berry flavors complicated by herbal, briary and menthol hints. Not yet sweet but thick with extract. Rigorous, strong wine, finishing with big but very fine tannins. Offers impressive potential.

    The 2008 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras is a prototypical wine for the year. Cool, inward and tense, it shows superb precision in its dark fruit, spices, menthol and tar. The wine literally wraps around the palate with serious intensity and a beguiling personality that is impossible to resist. The finish is pointed and flat-out beautiful.

    The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras is loaded with class and energy. There is tremendous energy in the glass as layers of dark cherries, mint, graphite, crushed rocks, spices and licorice gain volume and breath through the mid-palate and finish. I very much like the intensity and focus here. The Cras is going to need at least another few years in bottle, but it is shaping up to be truly stellar.

    (from a yield of about 28 hectoliters per hectare, according to Ghislaine Barthod): Good bright, full red. Very closed yet delicate nose offers scents of black cherry, licorice, fresh herbs and minerals. Soil-driven, saline and sweet, with powerful minerality accentuating the wine's superb concentration. Wonderfully tactile yet light on its feet, this taut, vibrant wine saturates the entire mouth and stains the front teeth. As with Barthod's other 2010s, the tannins are extremely refined. Barthod notes that the 1999 version of this wine is still young, and she believes that this 2010 will take even longer to reach full maturity.

    Barthod's beautiful 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Village reveals an inviting bouquet of raspberries, red cherries, blood orange and espresso roast, subtly framed by classy new wood.     The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Village is superb, mingling aromas of cherries and raspberries with hints of dark chocolate, potpourri and spices. Medium to full-bodied, gourmand and layered, it's deep and textural, with terrific concentration, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish.
