Nicolas Rossignol
About Nicolas Rossignol
Nicolas Rossignol has a firm footing in the villages of Volnay and Pommard. Prior to founding his own domaine, Nicolas worked with his father at Domaine Rossignol-Jeanniard, based in Volnay. With just a few hectares found also in Volnay, Domaine Nicolas Rossignol was founded in 1997, and has since grown by leaps and bounds. Quickly outgrowing his winery, Nicolas has since relocated to Beaune, where he shares a winery with Benjamin Leroux.
Today, Nicolas produces wines under nearly 30 designations, mostly specializing in 1er Crus of the Côte de Beaune appellations, notably Volnay and Pommard. It is therefore little wonder to hear that William Kelley regards Nicolas as “a winemaker who today numbers among the Côte de Beaune's best producers”.

On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and supple, with a lovely line of acidity, a fine-grained chassis of tannin and a beautifully defined finish. |

Burghound (92)(Outstanding) Fresh and elegant aromas are comprised by notes of plum, violet, rose petal and soft wood hints. There is fine detail and focus to the gorgeously textured middle weight, refined and overtly stony flavors that terminate in a lingering, delineated and equally classy finish. At least some patience suggested. |

Vinous (88-90)(Rossignol's five lower parcels were hit by hail and the one at the top was undamaged; Rossignol vinified them separately and then blended them for aging):Deep red-ruby. Attractive perfume to the aromas and flavors of black cherry, menthol, brown spices and garrigue; a slightly roasted quality is countered by an element of medicinal reserve. In a very ripe style but enlivened by chalky minerality. Finishes with ripe tannins and a burst of cherry. |
