Petit Village
Château Petit-Villages is a top Pomerol estate sandwiched between Le Pin to the north-west and Vieux Château Certan and La Conseillante to the east. The estate has a long history in Pomerol, dating back to 1785. Improvement at the estate began under Bruno Prats, and then ramped up from 1989 when the property was acquired by the deep pocketed AXA group. Jean Michel Cazes, of Lynch Bages, took over managing the property. While under the AXA brand, improvements at Château Petit Village took place including new vats, a new barrel cellar and possibly the most architecturally modern looking estate in the Pomerol appellation. In 2005 they appointed Stephane Derencourt as consultant. The tiny 11 hectare vineyard is planted to 75% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. Petit Village continues to maintain one of the highest portions of Cabernet Sauvignon plantings in the Pomerol appellation.
