Vinous (91)
(40% new oak): Bright violet color. Fresh raspberry and cherry on the lively floral nose. Spicy and incisive on the palate, with sappy red fruit liqueur and floral pastille flavors underscored by juicy acidity and a subtle vanilla nuance. A smoky mineral note adds bite to the finish, which hangs on with repeating florality. In an elegant style and very appealing now. -
Vinous (90)
Dark purple. Ripe dark berry and cherry scents, along with hints of olive and cracked pepper. Juicy and broad on the palate, offering bitter cherry, cassis and spicecake flavors that firm up slowly with air. Shows good clarity and spicy cut on the pliant finish, which is framed by dusty, even tannins.Pierre Gaillard Cornas 2017 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (94-96)
Out of barrel, Gaillard's 2018 Cote Rotie Esprit de Blonde is full-bodied and sturdy yet silky and elegant, with ripe black cherries (in contrast to the red fruit in the 2017). It seems more concentrated and should be a bit longer-lived than the 2017. -
Jancis Robinson (18.5+)
Barrel sample. Tasted blind. Super-expressive classic nose – violets, sweet fruit, black pepper and sandalwood. Showing lovely vibrancy on the palate, blueberry compote with fresh zesty acidity and purity. Fine tannins and a subtle peppery smoked finish. Impressive. (AC) -

Vinous (91)
Inky ruby. Mineral-accented aromas of black raspberry, cherry compote, olive and peony, along with a baking spice nuance and a hint of vanilla. At once rich and lively in style, offering juicy black and blue fruit flavors and hints of floral pastilles, salty olive and five-spice powder. Picks up a smoky accent with air and finishes spicy and impressively long, with a nervy mineral quality and fine-grained tannins adding final grip. 30% new oak. -
