Jancis Robinson (18.5+)
Barrel sample. Tasted blind. Super-expressive classic nose – violets, sweet fruit, black pepper and sandalwood. Showing lovely vibrancy on the palate, blueberry compote with fresh zesty acidity and purity. Fine tannins and a subtle peppery smoked finish. Impressive. (AC) -

Vinous (92)
Opaque ruby. Powerful cherry, dark berries, olive and smoky minerals on the highly fragrant nose. Juicy and broad on the palate, offering bitter cherry, blackberry, candied violet and spicecake flavors that unfurl slowly on the back half. Shows impressive clarity and finishes on a smoky note, with resonating spiciness and rounded, even tannins that sneak in late. -
Jancis Robinson (18+)
100% Syrah, 100% destemmed. Aged for 18 months in barrel (100% new oak). Barrel sample. Tasted blind. Lots of smokiness here, firm and showing some graphite flinty notes on the nose. A firm and tightly coiled palate with excellent freshness and florality – lots going on and a wine that has so much to offer over the coming years. -

Wine Advocate (90-92)
There are two other St Joseph releases. Coming all from a single vineyard in the northern part of the appellation (this site was originally planted in 1981 and has sandy, granite soils), the 2015 Saint Joseph Clos de Cuminaille (100 cases) is 100% Syrah that will see 16-18 months in 30% new barrels. This inky-colored St Joseph offers terrific notes of chocolaty dark fruits, roasted herbs, licorice and espresso roast, medium to full-bodied richness and ripe, polished tannin. It’s a beautiful wine. -

Vinous (91)
Inky ruby. Mineral-accented aromas of black raspberry, cherry compote, olive and peony, along with a baking spice nuance and a hint of vanilla. At once rich and lively in style, offering juicy black and blue fruit flavors and hints of floral pastilles, salty olive and five-spice powder. Picks up a smoky accent with air and finishes spicy and impressively long, with a nervy mineral quality and fine-grained tannins adding final grip. 30% new oak. -
