    Le Potazzine

Located in the heart of Montalcino, the estate sources their grapes from two different vineyards of varying altitude and soil types. These sites have a relatively cool climate and high-altitude positioning which leads to Monica Larner saying it is “these special conditions are exactly why this wine performs so nicely in a warm vintage like 2015” (WA).

Le Potazzine is a small winery that released its first wine only in 1997. Its ascent up the Tuscan hierarchy has been mind-blowing. Run by the dynamic all-female trio of Gigliola Gorelli and her daughters, the Wine Advocate comments the women behind this great estate for breaking with the Brunello pack, hailing them as “a sure bet if you are looking for a Brunello that will knock your socks off”.

    Vinous (91)

The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is remarkably pretty and refined in the glass with the most vivid notes of bright strawberry, lavender and dusty sage imaginable. There’s a burst of sour citrus up front that balances the opulence of the vintage well. Silken textures wash masses of raspberry and mulberry preserves across a brisk acid core. It finishes long and staining, leaving licorice notes and hints of clove to linger. The 2020 is a pleasure boat Rosso that can be enjoyed now or over the next three to five years.
