Trimbach

About Trimbach

Established in 1626, the House of Trimbach is now into its 12th generation of masterful Alsatian vignerons. Pierre and Jean Trimbach remain incredibly involved in all aspects of winemaking across their ancestorial Domaine, taking charge of everything from planting and vinification to selection and bottling. This total emotionally invested control over the entire vinous process from soil to bottle is a rare thing for owners to exercise in modern times.

Trimbach Pinot Gris Reserve Personnelle 2008 (12x75cl)

Wine Advocate (93)

Even more succulently rich yet no less dense or mouthwateringly bright than its “regular reserve” counterpart, the Trimbach 2008 Pinot Gris Reserve Personnelle is adds mirabelle and litchi to the peach, blood orange, and grapefruit of its “little” brother and a hint of oiliness of texture accentuates the impression of a Pinot Gris into which a bit of Gewurztraminer has been blended. As this opens to the air, musky and animal fat notes as well as black tea smokiness add intrigue and interest that – like sheer invigoration – never flags on repeated exposure to a veritably explosive finish. Look for this beauty to reward at least 15 years of attention and to perform feats at table that few wines can rival.

Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 1985 (8x75cl)

Wine Advocate (96)

Straw yellow colored, the 1985 Riesling Clos Ste Hune offers a very clear, precise and intense bouquet of stewed white peaches, crushed stones and floral aromas with a touch of caramel. Highly elegant, dense and round on the palate, this is a very intense, firmly structured, and tension-filled wine of great balance and length. Gorgeous!
Sold as per photos. Glass and size of bottle 7 is slightly different of the others. No original packaging. Estimated Arrival to United Kingdom:

Aromas of sliced apple, pear, lime rind and camembert. Full-bodied, dense and layered with so much ripe fruit and power. Then acidity takes off. Wow. Coming out next year.

Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2011 (1x150cl)

Wine Advocate (93+)

The 2011 Riesling Clos Ste Hune (in the market now, and which Pierre Trimbach compares with the 1983) is super ripe, rich, intense and complex on the nose. On the palate, this is a rich and concentrated, powerful but elegant and balanced Sainte Hune that currently lacks a bit of tension and vitality. However, the tannins will take the 2011 through many years, even though there is an initial hint of maturity already. Some caramel flavors in the finish. Bottled with 13.9% alcohol plus 6.6 of residual sugar.

Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2012 (1x150cl)

James Suckling (97)

Very cool, delicate and floral with daring elegance. Not the most powerful wine of this ripe vintage, but extremely refined. A very long finish that is marked by chalky minerality. The way that it literally blossoms in the glass after half an hour suggests that this masterpiece has at least a couple of decades of life ahead of it. Decant if you want to drink now.

Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2013 (1x150cl)

Wine Advocate (95+)

As readers know Trimbach's iconic Clos Sainte Hune comes from a 1.67 hectare plot on the Grand Cru Rosacker but is sold as Clos Ste Hune since 1919. The densely planted vines are pretty old (more than 50 years on average), with the oldest planted in the 1940s and the youngest in the 1980s. Bottled, like all the prestigious wines of Trimbach in April 2014, the 2013 Riesling Clos Ste Hune shows a very clear and deep, dusty/smoky, mineral nose which impressively reflects the Muschelkalk terroir. Rich, precise and pure also on the nobly textured and highly elegant palate this expressive and full-bodied Riesling is penetrating mineral and piquant but also very juicy. The finish is extremely long and complex. Very promising and stunningly accessible already. However, this wine won't be in the market before 2019/20.

Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2016 (1x150cl)

Vinous (98+)

Luminous straw. Penetrating nuances of lime and guava join the lemon verbena, jasmine, mineral and white stone fruit aromas on the knockout, captivating nose. Then dense, complex and multilayered, offering profound flavors of fresh citrus fruit, sweet spices and talcum powder. Closes extremely long, clean and precise; this is a young white wine of utterly mesmerizing beauty. I find this to be one of the best young CSHs I have ever tasted; it is stylistically different but almost on the same quality level as the marvelous 2010 CSH. One sniff (never mind taste) and I was left almost speechless - and I’m not usually one who keeps his mouth shut when I recognize a truly great wine.

Wine Advocate (91)

Clear and matured on the nose, the 1990 Riesling Frederic Emile is not that brilliant, but has purity and a lemon-fresh stoniness. It is pure, piquant and mineral on the palate, intense, and slightly austere but with tension and grip; it has good length, minty flavors, and is vital with grip and good length.
