    Vieille Cure

    One of the top names leading the charge in Fronsac; this 17th century property has benefitted from the increased international attention turned upon it's appellation, and is in turn advancing the region's profile through it's own efforts. By virtue of Fronsac's soil type, la Vieille Cure produced a surprisingly elegant wine in 2003 and since then has gone from strength to strength improving it's wines and rejuvenating its cellars. With some badly needed external investment finally arriving, La Vieille Cure and its fellow Fronsac estates have a very bright future indeed.

    Vinous - Neal Martin (91)

    The 2017 La Vieille Cure has a clean and well defined bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and light cedar aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, well integrated oak with a detailed, characterful finish that is very satisfying. This Fronsac has certainly developed nicely since its showing in barrel and comes recommended.

    Decanter (94)

    This is intense with tons of tar and cloves against the well-defined cassis fruits and lovely vibrant violet edging. The silky texture and legs indicate generous alcohol, but this is balanced, if on the larger side. It takes its time in the glass, at first a little overpowering, but it settles into itself and has been well handled offering good ageing potential. There were new owners as of harvest 2018, as French entrepreneur Jérôme Pignard took over from American co-owners; the Gant, Ferenbach and Sachs families.
