Buccella Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (4x75cl)

Vinous (94)

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautifully lush, modern Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Crème de cassis, raspberry jam, spice, menthol and kirsch give the wine its bold, flamboyant personality. Sumptuous, with no hard edges and tons of concentration, the 2013 is one of the most up-front and accessible wines of the year. At times, the alcohol is a bit evident, but with air some of that blows off. Readers in search of a 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring will find much to like.

Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino 2019 (4x75cl)

James Suckling (99)

This is made from over 100-year-old vineyards and offers blackberries with blue fruit and dark chocolate. Shows bark and black truffle undertones, too. Tight and more focused than in past vintages. The quality of the tannins is more precise and fine. Blackberries and black truffles at the end. Drink or hold.

Wine Advocate (100)

I was really looking forward to tasting the 2013 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard since all of the previous vintages have been truly exceptional, and I wanted to see what it would be in a cooler year. The bottled wine contains perhaps 15% Malbec in the blend, and they will soon stop mentioning Cabernet Franc on the label. It fermented in 500-liter oak barrels with 50% of the Cabernet Franc and all of the Malbec and then matured in used oak foudres. It's very intense and powerful, but at the same time, there is a kind of lightness on the palate that makes if feel light on its feet but with great inner power. There is citrus acidity that makes it effervescent and electric. It has some 7.5 grams of acidity and a pH of 3.45, very healthy parameters. The peppery character appears after some time, giving it a Chinon-like twist, and it also reminds me of my favorite Bordeaux, Pomerol's Lafleur. This is definitely world-class and worth lying down, as it should develop further complexity in bottle. This is one of those wines where the only improvement I can think of is having magnums rather than bottles. Bravo!

El Enemigo Gran Enemigo Gualtallary is a single vineyard (Gualtallary) production combining Cabernet Franc (dominant) and Malbec. After near misses in 2011 and 2012 in 2013 this amazing duo of winemakers produced the perfect wine in 2013. Wine Advocate critic Luis Gutiérrez said the 2013 reminded him of Pomorol’s Lafleur and was “definitely world class” and “worth laying down”. The 2013 has a drinking window to 2030 and all these wines will benefit from a decade of aging. Only around 3,000 bottles are produced, of this incredible wine (far less than wines like Screaming Eagle at 5,000-9,000).

The super high scores and tiny production mean that this is a lovely vertical for collectors or investors to own.

PerSe Gualtallary Inseparable 2018 (4x75cl)

Wine Advocate (94)

The new red 2018 Inseparable was produced with Malbec from the heart of Gualtallary Monasterio above 1,400 meters in altitude, planted over one of the chalkiest and poorest soils within the Valle de Uco. The hand-picked grapes were destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in 3,000-liter concrete vats, and the wine was racked into neutral French oak barrels, where it matured for 14 months. This is the more approachable and immediate of the wines, a good introduction to their portfolio, a very young and tender wine that is still serious. In 2018, the grapes from the lower part of the vineyard were harvested last, and the grapes had a slower ripening, a classical Gualtallary with some 30 to 40 centimeters of sand where the plants deliver slightly higher yields. Despite 2018 being a warmish vintage, the wine does not show any heat and feels very pure and floral with some notes of fresh herbs, red rather than dark fruit and an earthy twist. The palate reveals a velvety texture and round tannins with citrus freshness (blood orange) and a long and stony finish. This is elegant and balanced, delicious and with potential to develop in bottle. But it's hard to resist... 10,800 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2019.
