Vinous (92-94)The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has an intense, powerful bouquet of red and black fruit and undergrowth; touches of menthol develop with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, good structure and matière, and saline on the midpalate, leading to a grippy, quite assertive finish. Good aging potential. |

Clearly a richer, more powerful Gevrey Chambertin expression. Without necessarily the elegance of the Corbeau it is still well built and balanced a fine, muscular Gevrey-Chambertin. A wine of remarkable style and purity with excellent concentration and intensity.

Jancis Robinson (17.5)Danish pastries and roasted plums on the nose, very sweet and spicy. Fleshy and opulent on the palate, with great intensity of fruit. The tannins build and offer depth, structure and savour. Long and expansive on the finish. |

Wine Enthusiast (92)Vineyards on the same slope as the Grand Crus are the source for this rich wine. Its tannins are properly firm, with a dry core surrounded by fragrant, juicy red fruits. It is a rich wine that keeps its elegance and aging potential. Drink from 2024. |

Burghound (91)A ripe yet agreeably elegant, pure and airy nose consists of dark currant, spice, lavender, earth and a pretty range of floral nuances. The equally pure mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension while delivering fine persistence on the sappy, balanced and solidly complex finish. This youthfully austere effort is shaped by similar but denser fine-grained tannins while offering better depth. This too is lovely and well-worth checking out. |

Indulge in the exquisite experience of sipping the Philippe Pacalet Gevrey-Chambertin 2017, a remarkable expression of fine French winemaking. Made in the heart of Burgundy, this red embodies the terroir-driven ethos of famed winemaker Philippe Pacalet, who meticulously uses minimal intervention to yield the grapes' purest expressions. This vintage, comprised entirely of Pinot Noir, emanates a beautiful bouquet of ripe red fruits, spice, and forest floor. The wine is vinified with indigenous yeasts, unfiltered, then aged for 16 months in old oak barrels, capturing the essence of the Gevrey-Chambertin climats. Its seamless blend of depth, balance and structure offer a lingering finish, synonymous with the Pacalet style. The Philippe Pacalet Gevrey-Chambertin 2017, with its organic, biodynamic credentials, is a testament to the passage of time and meticulous care invested in each bottle. Secure a bottle or two and savour the artisanal legacy this fine wine delivers. |

Veneto | 1 | 95 (WA) | HK$19,500.00 | |||||
Wine Advocate (95)This wine is only made in the best vintages, and the next release is 2011. The 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a mysteriously ephemeral wine but also a very powerful one at the same time. The alcohol content is 16.5%, and this is one of the most important indicators used when deciding that a vintage is good enough to make Amarone. This wine shows a deep, dark color that is reinforced by thick density and smoky aromas that lift from the glass, followed by exotic spice, campfire ash, camphor and plenty of dark plummy and raisiny fruit. The bouquet reveals outlying aromas of bitter chocolate and crushed slate. In the mouth, the wine offers plenty of ripeness and fruity sweetness, but there is enough supporting structure here to absorb both the sugar and the alcohol. There is a sweetly fragrant earthy note on the long and silky finish. |

James Suckling (99)This is a huge and impressive wine, but somehow graceful and subtle. It packs an eclectic array of brambleberry compote, violet essence, eucalyptus, oyster shell, pure iodine, vanilla, resin, tar, cassis, plum liqueur and hot stones. You can only stand back in awe as one shade of fruit appears after the next and a barrage of tannin coats your mouth. Yet, this is gentle, agile and flowing. Nevertheless, its main attraction remains its unashamed, monumental power and muscularity. A haunting wine that sends chills down your spine. An epoch-defining wine for Veneto that harks back to the legends of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Perhaps the best Amarone ever made. Impossible to resist now, but better in 2022. |
