Vinous (92-94)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has an intense, powerful bouquet of red and black fruit and undergrowth; touches of menthol develop with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, good structure and matière, and saline on the midpalate, leading to a grippy, quite assertive finish. Good aging potential.

Clearly a richer, more powerful Gevrey Chambertin expression. Without necessarily the elegance of the Corbeau it is still well built and balanced a fine, muscular Gevrey-Chambertin. A wine of remarkable style and purity with excellent concentration and intensity.

Jancis Robinson (17.5)

Danish pastries and roasted plums on the nose, very sweet and spicy. Fleshy and opulent on the palate, with great intensity of fruit. The tannins build and offer depth, structure and savour. Long and expansive on the finish.

Wine Enthusiast (92)

Vineyards on the same slope as the Grand Crus are the source for this rich wine. Its tannins are properly firm, with a dry core surrounded by fragrant, juicy red fruits. It is a rich wine that keeps its elegance and aging potential. Drink from 2024.

Burghound (91)

A ripe yet agreeably elegant, pure and airy nose consists of dark currant, spice, lavender, earth and a pretty range of floral nuances. The equally pure mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension while delivering fine persistence on the sappy, balanced and solidly complex finish. This youthfully austere effort is shaped by similar but denser fine-grained tannins while offering better depth. This too is lovely and well-worth checking out.

Wine Advocate (94)

Mollydooker's 2018 Carnival of Love Shiraz is more red-fruited and structured than I expected, given the wine's stated 16% alcohol. Raspberries and cedar mark the nose, with hints of chocolate, espresso and baking spices. In the mouth, it's full-bodied, dense and powerful, with ripe but firm tannins supporting the bright berry flavors, then easing into a long, velvety and mouthwatering finish. It should drink well for around a decade, but if you're shy of tannins, you may want to wait another year or two before opening.

Wine Advocate (91)

Mollydooker's 2018 The Boxer Shiraz delivers what fans of this producer have come to expect: huge fruit, plenty of ripeness, tasty oak and oodles of flavor. Cedar, chocolate and mint accent cola, plum and berry fruit on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is round, supple and expansive. It's creamy-ripe, yet the wine ends silky and mouthwatering.

Wine Advocate (95)

The only one of the Mollydooker wines that even hints at needing some bottle age is the 2016 Velvet Glove Shiraz. Hints of hay or alfalfa mark the nose, along with huge raspberry and blueberry fruit. It's full-bodied, rich and tannic on the palate, picking up hints of chocolate and raisin on the long finish. I wouldn't suggest cellaring it too long, in case the dried-fruit notes come too much to the fore.

Wine Advocate - Robert Parker (94)

A prodigious, decadently rich effort, Oliverhill’s 2003 Shiraz Jimmy Section (15% alcohol) is a 100% Shiraz aged in French oak, of which one-third is new. It offers up a luxurious aromatic display of loamy earth, new saddle leather, blackberry liqueur, charcoal, and barbecue spices. Layered, chewy, full-bodied, and opulent with extravagant richness, sweet, supple tannin, and low acidity, this is a knock-out Shiraz to drink over the next 5-12 years.

Indulge in the exquisite experience of sipping the Philippe Pacalet Gevrey-Chambertin 2017, a remarkable expression of fine French winemaking. Made in the heart of Burgundy, this red embodies the terroir-driven ethos of famed winemaker Philippe Pacalet, who meticulously uses minimal intervention to yield the grapes' purest expressions. This vintage, comprised entirely of Pinot Noir, emanates a beautiful bouquet of ripe red fruits, spice, and forest floor. The wine is vinified with indigenous yeasts, unfiltered, then aged for 16 months in old oak barrels, capturing the essence of the Gevrey-Chambertin climats. Its seamless blend of depth, balance and structure offer a lingering finish, synonymous with the Pacalet style. The Philippe Pacalet Gevrey-Chambertin 2017, with its organic, biodynamic credentials, is a testament to the passage of time and meticulous care invested in each bottle. Secure a bottle or two and savour the artisanal legacy this fine wine delivers.

James Suckling (97)

An outstanding grenache from old bush vines in the Smart Vineyard, perched up on the Clarendon ridge line. This has an edge of white pepper and pomegranate with notes of bright raspberries and fresh leaves. This wine fuses elegance and power with a sleekly defined palate that carries real intensity in 2018. The structure is keenly tailored. Long and taut, red-fruit finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
