The 2019 Seña was produced with a Bordeaux blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Malbec, 15% Carmenere and 4% Petit Verdot with the Chilean character of the high percentage of Carmenere. The 2014 Viñedo Chadwick has developed quite well for a challenging vintage that began with a devastating frost, resulting in predominantly second-crop fruit used in the finished wine. It also provides a glimpse into the stylistic changes occurring at Chadwick at the time, which focuses on a great sense of balance and vitality in the finished wines. Dark fruits, pipe tobacco and pencil-shaving aromas are followed by a rich, concentrated mouthfeel that shows the introverted nature of such a low-yielding vintage. The finish is stiff and structural, lingering with assertive tannins that frame a gourmand core. Gorgeous nose with tobacco, cherry and strawberry nuances, incredibly aromatic. Beautifully textured and supremely balanced, so smooth with tannins that are there but fine and gently supporting the fruit. Everything in balance. Coffee, cinnamon, liquorice, all gentle and nuanced just giving the small details. Feels well controlled and purposeful. There is concentration no doubt but this has exceptional acidity, fruit forwardness, concentration and poise. A full bodied wine with plenty going on but finessed with a real sense of class to it.
