Chile
Chile is a well-established wine region known for producing exceptional fine wines that showcase the unique terroir of the country. The Chilean wine industry dates back to the 16th century, but it wasn't until the 1980s that Chilean wines started gaining international recognition for their high quality and value.
Today, Chile produces a range of world-class wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, and Syrah, among others. Some of the most famous vineyards in Chile include Concha y Toro, Viña Montes, Viña Errázuriz, Lapostolle, and Casa Silva. These vineyards are known for their commitment to sustainable and organic farming practices, as well as their use of traditional winemaking techniques.
Concha y Toro, for example, is one of the largest wine producers in Chile and produces a range of high-quality wines, including the Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon, the Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Casillero del Diablo.
With a focus on sustainable farming practices, a commitment to traditional winemaking techniques, and the use of unique terroir, Chilean wines have gained increasing recognition and popularity among wine enthusiasts worldwide. Gorgeous nose with tobacco, cherry and strawberry nuances, incredibly aromatic. Beautifully textured and supremely balanced, so smooth with tannins that are there but fine and gently supporting the fruit. Everything in balance. Coffee, cinnamon, liquorice, all gentle and nuanced just giving the small details. Feels well controlled and purposeful. There is concentration no doubt but this has exceptional acidity, fruit forwardness, concentration and poise. A full bodied wine with plenty going on but finessed with a real sense of class to it. Delicious and so drinkable even now. Ageing 22 months in French oak barrels (75% new) and 25% foudres.HK$8,245.00 -

The 2021 Viñedo Chadwick fermented in stainless steel and troncoconic concrete vats, spent some 10 months in barrique, and then part of the wine (some 20%) was sent to the Stockinger foudres. The nose is reminiscent of a super elegant and sleek Bordeaux, pure and clean, less balsamic than in previous years and less herbal. It's perfumed and floral, precise, fresh and elegant, with very fine tannins, and despite the grape, it is more Pomerol than Graves, with 14% alcohol on the label but without any heat at all. It's velvety and luxurious, juicy and tasty, with fine-grained chalky tannins and the elegant stoniness that the best Maipos are capable of. It has structure and power, like the proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove. This has to be the finest vintage for Chadwick; the wine made my heart beat faster—it's a wine of emotion. This is also my first 100-point wine from Chile! The final blend contains around 3% Petit Verdot from vines planted in 2005. There are some 10,000 bottles of this, and it was all bottled all at once on January 31, 2023.HK$4,735.00 -

The 2022 Viñedo Chadwick is equal parts composed and commanding, entering with an aromatic intensity that stays under the surface but holds excellent energy and power. The nose is darkly fruited, herbal and wonderfully gravel-laden and toasted, displaying pitch-perfect harmony between all elements. The texture is sumptuous yet graceful, displaying fantastic poise and clarity through its classically structured framing and balance. The finish calls back the nose's multidimensionality, simultaneously achieving a flashy, rugged persistence housed in an exquisite, understated and nuanced package. This is a real work of art that should deliver immense pleasure for two decades. It's a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, aged for 18 months in predominantly barrique with a small portion of foudre.HK$7,460.00 -

More complete than the 2017 RHU, this is Syrah-based with support from 12% Petite Sirah and 8% Garnacha. Effortlessly dense and floral, with classic mountain freshness and focus, notes of cooked meat and black olive, a twist of wild herbs, sappy tannins and the concentration and minerality to age gracefully in bottle.
