Wine Advocate (97+)Both 2013 Cabernet Sauvignons are in bottle, and both are absolutely magnificent wines, probably the two finest Cabernets made by the Staglins to date. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford (14.9% alcohol) has a stunning fragrance of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers (or is it violets?), sweet blackcurrant and black raspberry fruit, and a layered, opulent, rich and full-bodied mouthfeel. Add to that striking purity, equilibrium, and serious but finely grained tannins, and this is their finest Rutherford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon made to date. It has at least 30-40 years of life ahead of it. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)I continue to simply love the 2016s, which come close to rivaling the 2013s, albeit with a more elegant character. Another pure class release from this great estate, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend that includes small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all aged 20 months in mostly new French oak. Its deep purple/plum color is followed by classic Rutherford notes of blackcurrants, cedar pencil, chocolaty herbs, licorice, and hints of truffle. It's beautifully balanced, full-bodied, and seamless on the palate, and while it's less overt and sexy than the 2015, it shows the class, balance, purity, and length that makes 2016 such a special vintage. It offers pleasure today and will offer pleasure in another 20-25 years. |

Vinous (94+)The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is an attractive, racy wine with plush fruit, soft contours and tons of sheer immediacy. Sweet red berry fruit, floral notes, spice and mint are all nicely lifted in this enticing, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon from Staglin. The 2017 offers lovely freshness and aromatic presence in a medium-bodied Cabernet that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. |

Vinous (96+)The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a rich, heady wine that is going to need a number of years to shed its baby fat and come into its own. Dark and vertical in feel, the 2019 possesses tremendous energy as well as power. Black cherry, chocolate, new leather, licorice, espresso and cloves build into the huge, resonant finish. The 2019 spent 22 months in barrel, 80% new. I would not dream of touching a bottle anytime soon. |

Intensely dark, black fruits fill the glass with the blackberry, blackcurrant, boysenberry and ripe Damson plum taking center stage. Unctuous and resinous, the complex notes of leather, coffee extract, cocoa liquor and crushed rocks are given lift and lightness by an integrated essence of camphor, anise and potpourri. While the palate is initially a bit compact and focused, it quickly blossoms into a wonderfully mouth coating elixir with a fine-grained structure and a lively, granular texture that keeps on keeping on. This 2013 Salus Cabernet Sauvignon is at present a big, structured and tightly wrapped wine that will give and grow when given time and air.

Wine Advocate (97+)The 2016 Chardonnay Upper Barn Vineyard comes from the oldest vines on the estate, planted in 1982. Fermented in barrel and aged for 11 months in 47% new French oak, it is a little closed to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal pink grapefruit, white peaches and Granny Smith apples with nuances of honeysuckle, lemon tart and praline. Medium to full-bodied, it explodes in the mouth with citrus and savory layers, with a gorgeous silkiness and loads of ginger and mineral sparks coming through on the finish. Wow! 813 cases produced. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2018 Chardonnay Upper Barn Vineyard was aged for 10 months in French oak, 46% new. It has a very classy nose of ripe peaches, fresh yellow apples and allspice followed by fresh ginger, cashew and acacia honey plus a waft of sea spray. Full-bodied, rich, satiny and with fantastic intensity and tension, it finishes very long and chalky. YUM! 600 cases were made. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)The 2021 Pinot Noir Golden Hour is more upfront and expressive, with a sweet core of strawberries, black raspberries, spice, and dried flowers. Incredibly complex, medium to full-bodied, round, supple, and undeniably sexy, this is ultra-classic California Pinot Noir done brilliantly. I love it today yet see no reason it shouldn t evolve for 7-8 years, if not longer. |

James Suckling (99)Classy and layered nose, showing minty blackberries, black sour cherries, cassis, cigars and minerals, following through to cocoa powder and fine-tuned balsamic savoriness. A medium-to full-bodied red with wonderful freshness, juicy fruit and poise on the palate. Incredibly long, focused and immaculate. Really well-rounded, complex and persistent. Real harmony and length. Drink or hold. |

Tim Atkin MW (98)Overall Red Wine of the Year - Chile 2022 Special Report. Well, well, well. Who would have anticipated this? My best Chilean red wine of the year is a Malbec - and not just any Malbec. Roca Madre is an incredible, world-class red from the volcanic soils of the Río Hurtado vineyard, located at 1,600 metres in the remote Limarí Andes. Racy, tangy, grippy and intensely perfumed, it's an incredible expression of the variety, with violet, plum and black cherry concentration, fine-grained tannins and a pithy, energetic, mineral-etched core. |

Vinous (95)The 2022 Chardonnay Talinay Caliza hails from a tiny chalky plot of the Talinay Vineyard in Limarí, and was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels. The precise nose presents green apple and creamed corn notes with hints of hazelnut, praline, wet stone and a faint layer of gunpowder. Dry and concentrated in the mouth. The chalky, taut, refreshing feel produces a complex palate before the mouth-watering finish. A coastal Chardonnay of rare character. |

Vinous (94)Vivid yellow. Assertively perfumed orange zest, nectarine and pineapple aromas, along with building floral and smoky mineral flourishes. Shows fine definition and tension on the palate, offering intense citrus and pit fruit flavors braced by a core of juicy acidity. Lingers with superb tenacity on the finish, which strongly echoes the mineral and floral notes. |

Vinous (91)The 2020 Esprit de Tablas slowly unfolds in the glass with a mix of dusty black cherries, blood orange and sweet herbs. It’s lifted in feel with crisp mineral tones and rosy inner florals that perfectly complement its core of tart wild berry fruit. More lifted than the surrounding vintages yet excellently concentrated, the 2020 tapers off with exceptional length and crunchy tannins as hints of tart cranberry fade. The 2020 is the product of a warm, late season, with the added challenge of smoke from raging wildfires. While it comes across as quite docile, I find no issues with taint. |
