Vinous (92)This Sauvignon is neither flamboyant in its aromatics nor firm in its structure, but quietly understated, like its maker – and it is all the better for it. The pure and delicate flavors include apple and elderflower. The aromatic intensity has had the volume turned down to a pleasing hum thanks to 20% wild fermentation. Light in body, displaying lovely balance and poise. |

Decanter (95)Seductive bouquet of wild flowers and minerals, a fine leesy complexity and fresh aromas and flavours of citrus, peach tea and sweet hay. Crisp, refreshing, fruity and dry with fine texture. Just enough concentration of flavour to contrast the fresh herb notes and salivating acidity. Well made and long. |

The Real Review (96)Mid yellow, bright colour; the bouquet is layered, with buttered toast, smoked charcuterie reductive notes, fresh-herb traces and lemon/citrus peel aromas. If there is oak, it has mellowed in beautifully with time. Firm, dry, long finish. A full flavoured, rich wine which transcends the grape variety. Excellent. |

Decanter (97)The flagship wine from renowned winemaker Kevin Judd, who founded this winery with wife Kimberley in 2009 after 25 years at Cloudy Bay. Sourced from sites across the region, it is fermented using wild yeasts in old French oak barriques where it rests on lees for six months. Roger Jones: Stylish balance of fruit to herbaceous notes, multi-layered with a crunchy texture, mellow yellow summer field flowers. The elegance at the end is quite remarkable. Freddy Bulmer: Attractive and clean on the nose, plenty of primary fruit but also a nice amount of savoury character from the oak. Well balanced and really quite a serious wine. Cat Lomax: Expressive, punchy nose. Great concentration, tonnes of luscious Sauvignon fruit supported by very smart use of oak. Tastes like pricey white Bordeaux. Delicious. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2022 Wild Sauvignon is ever an elegant affair, and this year feels quite restrained in its outlay of fruit, oak and spice. I love this wine; it ages beautifully, and it shows the serious, more complex side of Sauvignon Blanc. This is highly recommended. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. |

Central Otago | 1 | 97 (WP) | HK$2,640.00 | |||||
Wine Pilot (97)Mid cherry red in colour it opens with beautifully seductive aromas. Powerful sweet dark cherry fruit with prominent young oak are lifted by savoury mushroom consommé, and truffle with a dusting of spice. It’s then dry, finely balanced and quite light weight for Otago thanks to that vineyard altitude, yet still carries a powerful core of fleshy, gamey fruits with bright acidity and mouthcoating tannins. The finish is long and strong, with a classic peacock’s tail gaining more floral and spicy complexity as it lingers till the very end. It’s seriously impressive and an outstanding first release. It might not be cheap, but it is worth every cent, and more. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2014 Coddington Chardonnay leads with beeswax and brine, pressed white flowers, crushed shells and chalky minerality. The wine is restrained and elegant, mouthfilling in its intensity and showing spicy prowess through the finish. It's very, very good, excellent, in fact. Notions of oak-derived (?) bacon fat through the finish boost complexity and interest. There's plenty of time left to go here. |

Wine Advocate (91+)The 2015 Coddington Chardonnay is youthfully muted with subtle suggestions of lemon curd, lime leaves and grapefruit peel plus a yeasty, toasty, cedary waft. Light to medium-bodied, fine, fresh and delicate in the mouth, it delivers good citrus and yeasty notes. |

The Real Review (95)Ripe stone fruit/peach/nectarine flavours with nutty oak, vanilla, and bready yeast lees flavours. Complex and accessible wine that would benefit from a little bottle age but is deliciously accessible now. |
