One of the slightly darker purple colours, with a ripe and dark edged fruit. I sense the whole bunches more here than in the Clos Vougeot. Becomes more nuanced further back on the palate, with greater energy to the fruit. I was not sure from the nose but the palate works with a good balance between the slightly riper fruit profile and the acidity. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023.HK$14,775.00 -

A fine deep purple, with brilliance. The bouquet has the energy which we expect with that extra note of headiness. The Malconsorts opens out gorgeously and is kept fresh by a good thread of acidity. Pure, long, fine, lifted, medium plus bodied but there is a little bit of majesty here nonetheless. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023.HK$12,115.00 -

A blend of Damodes du bas and Basses Maizières, picked on 3rd and 7th September. Attractive mid purple. Some nobility to the nose but in a discreet way. This is happily balanced with excellent class, heady Vosne fruit, even some spice, then a firmer tannin, but this works really well. Damodes gives the lift, Maizières the body. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: October 2023.HK$5,275.00 -

The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Les Caillerets is terrific, offering up scents of waxy citrus zest, white currants and peach mingled with hints of sweet stones, spring flowers and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, pure and satiny, it's elegantly layered and precise, with a cool core of fruit, racy acids and a long, chalky finish. As usual, it's one of the more ethereal, mineral wines in the Coche-Dury portfolio.HK$27,120.00 -

The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières is utterly seductive, wafting from the glass with notes of pear, white flowers, clear honey, toasted hazelnuts and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it's suave and seamless, with an elegant, layered profile and terrific mid-palate volume. Everything about this wine seems effortless.HK$48,515.00 -

The 2022 Meursault Village is lovely, unfurling in the glass with notes of citrus and crisp stone fruit mingled with white flowers, fresh hazelnuts and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, with terrific density and cut, its satiny attack segues into a layered, structured mid-palate, concluding with a discreetly oak-inflected finish. This vintage should offer a comparatively broad drinking window.HK$6,984.00 -

As ever, the 2022 Meursault Les Chevalières is almost the stylistic mirror image of the Rougeots, even though the parcels are neighbors (the soil and exposition, however, are different). Unwinding in the glass with notes of citrus oil, crisp Anjou pear, white flowers, praline and freshly baked bread, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and racy, with a chiseled, intensely mineral profile and a mouthwateringly saline finish.HK$47,120.00 -

The 2022 Meursault Les Rougeots is beautiful, unfurling in the glass with aromas of pear, confit citrus, freshly baked bread, toasted sesame and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's textural and structured, with lively acids, chalky dry extract and a suave, seamless profile.HK$60,955.00 -

The usual blend of Taillepieds and Clos des Chênes, from a parcel that straddles the border of the two climats, Coche's 2022 Volnay 1er Cru offers up aromas of sweet berries, cherries, peonies and vine smoke, followed by a medium to full-bodied, pure and fleshy palate that's bright, lively and precise.HK$8,405.00 -

(5 Star Wine) First we tasted the component parts. (1) Young vines from 1980s. A deep concentrated purple. Lesser foliage in the hot dry summer has concentrated the colour and other aspects, giving a dark style of fruit as well, with a nutty finish, but good acidity. (2) A blend, mainly from plot #3 and a bit of #1. Mid purple in colour, less demonstrative on the nose. A much suppler style of fruit, less forceful acidity, fine length, more typical Epenots here. (3) Old vines, 90+ years old: A deep glowing purple. A little more intensity, a gorgeous quality of deep red fruit, just a touch tougher in its tannins, plus the acidity. (4) Press wine: dark purple, powerful rather than fine on the nose, more volatile, but could be useful in the blend. Sweet thick dark red to black fruit. Chunky stuff. And now the blend: A deep purple colour with only a very slightly lighter rim. The bouquet suggests poise as the fruit has melded together harmoniously. On the palate this is, as almost always, a much more complete wine than the individual parts. The wine seems to push down deeper while retaining all the class of the very best components. We are approaching the cusp of red and black fruit, the acidity is perfectly harnessed and the tannins are fine grained. Potentially a very fine Clos des Epeneaux. Drink from 2032-2040+. Six barrels, two of them new. A medium to bright purple. The nose is invigorating with as little as 10% whole bunches, enough to add a floral note. This is lively on the palate, a Fremiets which has remembered it is in Volnay, not Pommard, delightfully stylish at the finish. Drink from 2032-2037. Tasted: October 2023.HK$1,090.00 -

Mid crimson to purple, with some reduction on the nose. A concentrated dark raspberry fruit, still with this reductive element. If and when that clears there is a fine long finish to look forward to instead. Impressive fruit in the end, so scored on the asu, mption that the reduction will clear. Drink from 2028-2034. In bottle. Made as three cuvees, then assembled. A rich mid purple with a deliciously heady bouquet, the sumptuous side of dark raspberry, perfumed yet precise, purple fruit with some redder layers beneath, a little white pepper spice, multiple layers of fruit, very engaging with just a very slight youthful bitterness. Irreproachable. Drink from 2032-2045. Tasted: November 2023.HK$12,125.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)
Planned to pull out 30% of the holding, but in the end 40% made more sense. So there is just 60% left of old virused vines. Hence only 3.5 barrels. Bright mid purple. The bouquet has a delicious, lifted, velvety red fruit. Floral and seductive, entirely red fruit, nothing black, so not too ripe, and with abundant energy. Fresh and even slightly peppery at the finish. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted: November 2023.HK$9,587.60 -

Bottled end October. Fine pale lemon colour with a definite green tint. Tense powerful crisp fruit, the crunchy side of orchard fruit, then builds in richness to the back, before rediscovering its minerality to finish. Notably persistent, I can see the point in Musigny Blanc more easily than I used to! Drink from 2030-2040.HK$11,325.00 -

A tasting of each of the seven 2022 Musigny VV sub-sections and an approximate blend hint at a wine of almost voluptuous sensuality, with expressive mulberry and pomegranate fruit and hints of earth, smoke and liquorice that waft from the glass. The texture is powerfully tannic and dense but almost infinitely silky, and there is a dynamic interplay between the perfumed fruit and robust structure. Ideally, wait a decade before opening.HK$6,015.00 -

The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes showed very well from barrel, and it's just as good in bottle. Wafting from the glass with notes of pear, waxy citrus rind, white flowers, freshly baked bread and honeycomb, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, with an elegantly muscular profile and a long, precise finish.HK$38,520.00 -

Although somewhat reserved at present, this has the makings of a monumental wine. Quince, ripe apricot and nectarine aromas are accented with hints of spice and marzipan. The texture has impressive density and power, balancing substance and elegance to linger impressively on the palate. Should begin to open three to five years after release and will drink well for 30 years or more. A portion of Lafon’s three-quarters of a hectare here has been replanted, but this is only the old-vine portion.HK$29,710.00 -

The 2022 Meursault Les Porusots 1er Cru has a sophisticated bouquet with crushed limestone infusing citrus fruit mixed with yellow flowers and a little undergrowth. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This feels harmonious, lovely, poised and pure, with hints of tropical fruit decorating yet not defining the finish. Superb.HK$49,315.00 -

Fine pale lemon colour. The bouquet offers precision in a mineral style of Meursault, but not massively demonstrative. Lemon infused minerals almost to the point of being severe, but there is clearly a significant volume of fruit still to emerge. I can see the Clos de la Barre growing in stature from here.HK$23,060.00 -

For the first time, the Volnay Les Santenots-du-Milieu contains 50% whole clusters, which they believe adds more freshness to the wine. I think it gives another layer of complexity: black plum, violet, briar and just a touch of graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins and gentle grip, gaining body and depth towards a harmonious and minerally finish. Excellent. NB In 2023, they de-stemmed 100%, so the whole bunches are subject to the growing season.HK$13,705.00
