The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru reveals the same seriousness it displayed in barrel. Unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries, dark berries, orange zest and petals, it's full-bodied, layered and enveloping, built around a chassis of sweet, powdery tannins and animated by lively acids. While this is generally the domaine's most immediate grand cru, the 2022 will nevertheless demand a bit of patience.HK$27,983.00 -

Derived almost exclusively from lieu-dit Les Draze, the 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Village wafts from the glass with aromas of red berries, cherries, rose petals and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, deep and pure, with a concentrated core of fruit framed by sweet tannins, it's showing especially well.HK$7,350.00 -

A fresh and vibrant purple. 100% whole cluster. A sort of brioche reduction. Then it really develops on the palate, with a lifted vibrant red fruit, mainly raspberry, still some tannins behind, though the fruit covers them very nicely. Medium persistence. I can see Jeremy’s 2002 comparison for this wine. Drink from 2032-2040.HK$40,540.00 -

From the usual four vineyards. Deep crimson. The bouquet has quite an elegant style even if the individual fruits are not yet quite with us. Quite a firm structure behind but sitting well with the deep red fruit. Balanced and stylish, with good ageing potential. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted: November 2023.HK$12,125.00 -

Glowing purple. There is a fine weight of fruit, building steadily, lifting deep cherry notes, with an excellent texture, serge not silk, but it provides a fine backbone. I can see this ageing into a classic Dujac village Morey, always one of Burgundy’s great village wines. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted: November 2023.HK$7,350.00 -

Now in bottle, the 2022 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru has a gorgeous bouquet with ebullient red cherry, wild strawberry and crushed stone scents. Hints of wilted rose petals emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine balance and filigree tannins. It's very harmonious with a bravura finish. What a superb Malconsorts this will be.HK$5,940.00 -

A deep and vibrant ruby purple. This also has the seductive quality one wants but definitely is more precise, more subtle. There is a special backbone to this wine which makes it complete rather than just superficially attractive. This Charmes-Chambertin has a definite mineral finish. Drink from 2031-2040. The 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru, matured entirely in new oak, was surprisingly closed on the nose, needing a bit of coaxing. It offers dark berry fruit, truffle and light violet scents, the latter becoming more prominent with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit, blood orange, blueberry and crushed stone. It fans out towards the finish, perhaps the Beaumont with a bit more panache? Still, this is a lovely Echézeaux.HK$64,420.00 -

The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1er Cru is matured entirely in new oak. It has a brutally backward bouquet that only reluctantly begins to unfurl. I almost asked Emmanuel Rouget to run upstairs and give my glass a decant! The palate is silky smooth on the entry, beautifully focused and citrus-fresh. Blood orange and hints of crème de cassis appear towards the crystalline finish. Superb.HK$237,270.00 -

Fresh colour, lemon and lime, not massive at all in bouquet but I am learning not to expect that chez Sauzet. A broad beamed intensity on the palate, this almost seems uncouth after the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, but it still has its finesse. A light oatmeal touch from young (but not new) wood, and a great deal in reserve. A fine and impressive wine, though unlike in most cellars in 2022, I am leaning towards the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet today. But this will definitely work! Drink from 2030-2040.
