Castello di Perno Wine Dinner
Founded only recently in 2012, Castello di Perno is an exciting, new estate clearly on the rise. Well-respected wine writer Tom Hyland, who contributes regularly to Forbes, goes as far as to call this “the best Barolo producer you’ve probably never heard of”, while Walter Speller has plenty of praise for this budding gem.
"Castello di Perno also made an impression on me last year with a more-than-convincing range of wines… With its almost 200 ha (494 acres) Perno is pushing the 'cru' concept a little, but the Castello di Perno plot, sitting on the crest of the hill, truly stands out. From it in 2017 a fantastic, vibrant Barolo with crunchy red fruit has been produced. Equally fascinating is their rendition of Castelletto, also in Monforte d'Alba. Monforte d'Alba. Mid ruby. This shows plenty of concentration, in fact more than many other Barolos of this vintage. Complex earthy nose with cherry and raspberry fruit and subtle spice. Succulent fruit on the palate that is still a little compact and a layer of polished tannins. Lively, fresh and long. Gritty tannins that cling to the palate on the finish. Could be GV.HK$2,650.00
