(6x75cl) 2016Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)
The 2016 La Fleur de Gay is a wine of real personality and class. Dark cherry jam, mocha, espresso, blood orange and rose petal give the 2016 an exotic quality that is hugely appealing, while beams of supporting tannin provide the framework. In the glass, the 2016 is rich, dense and remarkably vivid, all of which make it absolutely compelling. This is a fabulous showing.HK$4,275.00 -

Solid, with licorice root, ganache and fig notes forming a slightly muscular core, backed by brambly grip and a good dose of roasted apple wood on the finish. A touch rustic but has the core of fruit to fill out. For fans of the style.HK$7,355.00 -

Like drinking chocolate mousse. Extremely ripe and rich, with masses of chocolate and tobacco aromas and flavors. Wonderful now, but it's still closed and can age.--Pétrus vertical. Best from 1995 through 1997.HK$3,575.00 -

A magnificent Pétrus. A virtual spicerack of a wine, this Bordeaux features exotic, spicy aromas, with nuances of cinnamon, strawberries and raspberries. Full-bodied and tannic, with an amazing wild berry, sweet fruit and spice aftertaste. Best after 2002. 3,200 cases made.HK$26,190.00 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-89)
Redcurrant, minerals and spice on the nose. Fresh and juicy in the mouth, with cooler, rather muscular flavors of kirsch, minerals, mint and shoe polish. Quite tight today, and not yet showing much fat or personality, but has the structure and guts to develop in bottle. Finishes firmly tannic.HK$19,085.00 -

Fantastic. Dark ruby color with hints of purple. Glorious aromas of blackberry, tobacco, cedar and slightly wet earth. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a fabulous finish. This is subtle and refined. Wonderful length. Tasted side by side with the 2000 Pétrus, it is clearly better. Today, I give it two points higher than previous tastings. Perfection.--Pétrus non-blind vertical. Best after 2012.HK$38,205.00 -

Fabulous aromas of crushed berries, black olives, flint and grilled meat. Yet it's subtle. Full-bodied, with superbly refined tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Superb. Racy. Exciting. Best after 2012.HK$25,430.00 -

Moderately saturated medium red. Aromas of cherry, earth, minerals and nutty oak. Supple, smooth and fat, but with some edgy acidity yet to be absorbed. Lacks the dimension of the young 2004, but finishes with reasonably sweet tannins.HK$1,630.00 -

Crushed blackberries and plums with hints of fresh mushrooms and violets. Very complex indeed. Full-bodied, with silky and refined tannins. This is a very rich and broad-shouldered Pétrus. Brawny. I am interested to see how it develops in barrel. Will it be better than 1998 or 2000? Score range: 95-100HK$18,460.00 -

A lovely example of just how pitch-perfect this vintage is now, with caressing raspberry and plum confiture flavors allied to an impressive structure, albeit smaller-scaled than '01, '00 and other denser years. Refined through the finish, with a fine gilding of warm tobacco and black tea notes. Pretty irresistible now and should cruise nicely for a while.--Non-blind La Fleur-Pétrus vertical (December 2015). Drink now through 2030. 3,500 cases made.HK$22,145.00 -

A sleeping giant. Dark ruby in color, showing aromas of blackberry, cèpe and green olive, with a hint of mineral. Full-bodied, with ultrafine tannins and a supercaressing mouthfeel. Turns to coffee, dark chocolate and berry. Chewy yet balanced. Very, very long in the mouth. The finish is absolutely breathtaking. Best after 2013. -JSHK$20,440.00
