Nice dark berry and bright spice on the nose. Full bodied, with a dense palate of ripe fruit and intense fruit. Very tight and spicy. This needs five or six years to come around. Find the wineHK$4,530.00 -

Black and unyielding up front, with the scent of the dark skin of currants, this young wine emphasizes its stony tannins. The finish opens up with air, a curtain rising on cassis flavors that slowly take precedence over the tannin. Firm and polished, this should age well.HK$4,010.00 -

Bernard Audoy usually makes a gracious, middleweight wine at his property across from Cos d'Estournel, at the southern border of St-Estèphe. This 2005 is more powerful, with jasmine and bergamot scents buzzing over serious tannins. The fruit is completely hidden, as black as the tannins that coat the mouth in mineral flavors, neither ripping nor softened up. Sleek and expansive, this is set to age for ten years or more.HK$6,330.00 -
James Suckling (92-93)
Wonderful improvement here, with blackberry and chocolate character, full, round and soft. Very well done indeed.HK$6,975.00 -

(6x75cl) 2013Vinous - Ian D'Agata (87-90)
Inky violet. Seductive spice-and floral-accented blackberry and dark plum aromas, plus a gentle hint of cured tobacco. Reasonably ripe and surprisingly plush for the vintage, with sweet dark berry flavors, gentle if youthfully chewy tannins and impressive sweetness on the moderately persistent finish. This seems built to withstand aging better than most other Bordeaux of 2013, but I'd still drink it up within ten years of its release for maximum enjoyment.HK$1,520.00 -
(12x75cl) 2014Vinous - Neal Martin (90)
The 2014 Cos-Labory has a slightly pinched bouquet at first, gradually opening with blackberry and briary scents, just a touch of graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, sappy black fruit laced with graphite and black pepper, quite harmonious with a crisp and poised, satisfying finish. Excellent, traditional Saint Estèphe and perhaps one of the best Cos-Labory I have tasted thus far. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.HK$3,360.00 -

(6x75cl) 2015Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90)
The 2015 Cos Labory is powerful, dense and super-concentrated. Although the new oak remains prominent, the wine has really come together very nicely during its aging and is now much more harmonious than it was from barrel. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, licorice and crushed flowers are all sketched in bold tones that convey an extroverted style. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.HK$1,820.00 -

The 2016 Cos Labory is a supple, pretty wine with plenty of near and medium-term appeal. Sweet tobacco, cedar, leather, scorched earth and menthol are all nicely laced together. From bottle, the 2016 is a bit more subdued than it was from barrel, while some slightly rough contours are going to need time in bottle to sort themselves out fully.HK$3,525.00 -

The 2017 Cos Labory is pliant, open-knit and quite expressive. Spice, dried flowers, dried herbs, red cherry and tobacco are all finely-knit. A lovely wine, Clos Labory is just as delightful as it was en primeur. Readers can expect an attractive, mid-weight Saint-Estèphe built for near and medium-term drinking. The 2017 is nicely balanced and easy to like.HK$3,095.00 -

The 2018 Cos Labory is fabulous. An extra kick of richness from the warm year and a bit more Petit Verdot than usual result in a Cos Labory that is wonderfully savory, powerful and layered. Black cherry, plum, cloves, chocolate and dried herbs build as this potent, exotically ripe Saint-Estèphe opens in the glass. Today, the 2018 is dark, brooding and in need of cellaring. Cos Labory is a bit wild, but that just adds to its considerable allure.HK$1,615.00 -

The 2019 Cos Labory remains rather brawny, but it certainly has a ton of character. Black cherry, plum, gravel, licorice and scorched earth add to an impression of rusticity. Even so, there is plenty of depth and more than enough energy to support many years of fine drinking.HK$1,900.00 -

The 2020 Cos Labory is bright and exuberant in the glass. The purity of the flavors is striking. It will be interesting to see if the tannins settle down a bit. Today, they are pretty piercing in their intensity. Raspberry jam, game, iron, licorice, mint and sweet pipe tobacco lend energy and vibrancy throughout. Cos Labory is a touch austere, and yet it has plenty to offer.HK$2,605.00 -

(12x37.5cl) 2021Jancis Robinson (16+)
Deep crimson. Nose is both fresh and ripe. Not the most opulent wine; it finishes a little dry. Really quite drying in fact. There’s no shortage of ripe fruit here and the minerality of St-Estèphe imposes itself. Another wine that does not taste as though it came from an unripe vintage but you need to love St-Estèphe to love this wine. The finish is distinctly inky and hard work.HK$1,820.00 -

The 2022 Château Cos Labory comes from the team at Cos D'Estournel and is based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc raised in 50% new French oak. This saturated purple-hued beauty boasts a great nose of smoky red and black fruits interwoven with notes of graphite, tobacco, and crushed stone. It's a rich, full-bodied, concentrated 2022 with sweet tannins and no hard edges. It already offers pleasure, yet I wouldn’t be surprised to see this still going strong at age 30.HK$720.00 -

The 2016 Domeyne is a plump, juicy wine. Dark fruit, chocolate, spice, violet and plum are pushed forward. Succulent and forward, with notable density on the palate, the 2016 should drink well upon release. This is an especially juicy style for Saint Estèphe, yet there is good freshness and energy as well.HK$2,005.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (88-90)
The 2019 Frank Phélan is a very pretty, supple second wine that will drink well upon release. Inky dark fruit, licorice, spice, tobacco, dried herbs, lavender and mint all meld together in this supple, mid-weight Saint-Estèphe. There is plenty to like here. All the 2019 needs is élevage to soften the tannins.HK$1,135.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (87)
The 2020 Frank Phélan, which will be released in 2023, has a well-defined nose, hints of black olive tinging the black fruit with raspberry and mulberry surfacing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft opening, quite rounded and fleshy, perhaps missing a little tension on the finish. As such, it's an early-drinking Saint-Estèphe that should give several years' drinking pleasure.HK$1,150.00
