  • Echo de Lynch-Bages 2018 (1x300cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (94)

The 2018 Echo De Lynch-Bages checks in as a mix of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc that was brought up all in once-used French oak. It has a grand vin tech-sheet with 13.9% alcohol, 3.57 pH, and a massive IPT of 87. Deep purple-hued, with a great nose of blackcurrants, scorched earth, lead pencil shavings, tobacco, and dark chocolate, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered monster of a mid-palate, and silky tannins. It's stunning juice all the way, and given its wealth of material and texture, it's drinkable today, yet smart money will hide bottles for 5-7 years, and it's going to evolve for 20 years or more. It's an incredible second wine.

  • Enclos Tourmaline 2018 (3x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (96-99)

From a miniscule one-hectare parcel right across from Clinet, on the upper plateau of Pomerol, the 2018 Enclos Tourmaline is a blockbuster in the making, and I suspect it’s going to give the 2016 a run for its money. Checking in as a 100% Merlot raised in new oak, which hit 14.7% natural alcohol, this inky color blockbuster boasts a massive bouquet of black fruits, smoke herbs, chocolate, and damp earth. It shows a more floral edge with time in the glass and it’s full-bodied, concentrated, and plush on the palate, with sweet tannins. It’s certainly one of the sexiest wines in this terrific vintage. Hats off to vineyard manager and winemaker Jérôme Aguirre as well as consultant Michel Rolland for another brilliant wine in the making. Tasted twice.

    (12x75cl) 2018

Farr Vintners 2018 stands as a testament to unparalleled craftsmanship from the renowned Farr Estate in the picturesque Loire Valley. This exceptional vintage is crafted from organically grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, meticulously handpicked to ensure the highest quality. The winemaking process embraces traditional techniques, including cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks followed by ageing in French oak barrels for 12 months, which imparts subtle complexity without overshadowing the wine's natural elegance. The 2018 harvest benefited from a harmonious climate, allowing the grapes to achieve optimal ripeness and balance. On the nose, Farr Vintners 2018 offers enticing aromas of ripe pear, citrus blossom, and a hint of minerality. The palate is refined and expressive, showcasing layered flavours of green apple, brioche, and a seamless integration of oak. Farr Vintners, celebrated for their dedication to sustainable viticulture and exquisite wine production, deliver a 2018 vintage that delights connoisseurs with its finesse and enduring character.

  • Faugeres 2018 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)

The 2018 Faugères is fabulous. Silky and nuanced, the 2018 is striking right out of the gate. As I noted previously, the 2018 marks a transition to a more finessed style that is hugely appealing. There is plenty of the richness Faugères fans expect, but, at the same time, the wine is so well balanced and harmonious. Hints of rose petal, lavender, spice and dark fruits linger on the memorable close. The 2018 is an undeniably sexy wine.

  • Ferriere 2018 (6x150cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)

The 2018 Ferrière is a powerful, tightly wound wine. Inky dark fruit, gravel, cured meats, graphite, smoke and lavender all run through the 2018. Readers will have to be especially patient, as the 2018 needs time to unwind. Yields are down from an average of 45 hectoliters per hectare to just 26, which no doubt contributes to the wine's natural intensity. The blend is 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, in other words, the Cabernet Sauvignon is especially high, a recent trend here because of climate change. This is the first year in which a portion of the wine was aged in cement and amphora (20%), which according to Claire Lurton allows for lower SO2 in aging.

  • Feytit-Clinet 2018 (6x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (96-99)

From one of my favorite estates in Pomerol, situated between Trotanoy and Latour à Pomerol, the 2018 Château Feytit-Clinet is currently sitting at 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc being raised in 70% new French oak. Sporting a deep purple/blue color as well as a massive bouquet of blackberries, smoked herbs, liquid violets, and graphite, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a weightless, seamless texture, thrilling purity, and a great, great finish. It’s a powerful wine hitting 14.9% alcohol yet there’s not a trace of heat. Offering beautiful purity and flawless balance, it reminds me of the 2010, only better.

  • Fourcas Hosten 2018 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (88+)

The 2018 Fourcas Hosten confirmed my findings from my in-bottle report. Blackberry and seaweed scents feature on the nose, along with hints of tobacco (perhaps less prominent than before). The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity, and this bottle is suppler than the previous one, with a little more spiciness surfacing toward the finish. Give it 2–3 years in bottle.
