The 2018 La Cabanne takes a few minutes to find its footing. It then reveals attractive blackberry, briary and light black truffle scents; with further aeration, more red fruit manifests. The palate is well balanced, lithe and pliant with supple tannins and well-integrated oak. Lovely orange pith notes develop toward the harmonious finish, which feels long and tender. This La Cabanne has turned out nicely and should drink well for 15–20 years.HK$2,050.00 -
James Suckling (93-94)
A solid second wine from La Mission with currants, blackberries and hints of fresh tobacco. Oyster shell as well. Full-bodied with firm and chewy yet fine-grained tannins. Driven and long.HK$3,165.00 -

Brought up in 30% new French oak and based on an 80/20 split of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Château La Chenade has a classy, beautiful nose of crème de cassis, dried tobacco, lead pencil, and earth. This carries to a vibrant, medium-bodied Lalande de Pomerol with fine yet present tannins, a solid spine of acidity, and a great finish. It's another release from Denis Durantou that's going to benefit from just short-term cellaring and cruise for a decade.HK$1,195.00 -

From an estate purchased by Ausone in 2014, the 2018 Château La Clotte looks to be a sensational wine in the making, and I think it’s probably going to surpass both the 2015 and 2016. A blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc, this deeply colored Saint-Émilion offers a smoky, blackcurrant, black cherry, and graphite-driven bouquet. This carries to a medium to full-bodied red that has a stacked mid-palate, tons of ripe, sexy fruit, building tannins, and a great finish. It’s a brilliant Saint-Émilion that’s going to need short-term cellaring but will cruise in cool cellars for two decades or more.HK$3,275.00 -

The 2018 La Confession has an intense nose of black cherry, raspberry coulis and a very slight Wellington boot scent, possibly from a bit of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, dry tannins. Quite bold and forthright, it has a voluminous finish but comes across just a little raw at the end. A couple of years in bottle will do this no harm, but it takes itself a bit too seriously.HK$1,520.00 -

The 2018 La Conseillante is composed of 83% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc, with a 3.65 pH and 14% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it needs a lot of swirling and coaxing to lure out the youthfully shy, incredible perfume of black raspberries, boysenberries, ripe plums and cinnamon toast, leading to notions of lilacs, clove oil and forest floor, plus a waft of iron ore. The medium to full-bodied palate is a jaw-dropping exercise in finesse, slowly unfurling in the mouth to reveal layer upon layer of bright, crunchy red and black fruits, supported by a rock-solid frame of firm, fine-grained tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long and with an impressive mineral and exotic spice firework display. It's an incredible expression of Pomerol that cannot fail to inspire a resounding "WOW" from whoever is fortunate to drink it. Tempting to broach now (albeit with a lot of air), try to keep your hands off it for a good 5 years and then drink it over the next 30 years or more.HK$5,565.00 -

Unusually for Merlot-dominated Pomerol, this 13-acre vineyard is planted with 51% of the two Cabernets. The resulting wine is richly fruity and structured, with generous chocolate and black-coffee flavors as well as dark berry fruits. The wine needs time and will be best from 2025.HK$1,165.00 -
Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé “B” in St-Émilion, there is talk of a potential upgrade to the promised land of Classé “A” just next year – a testament to the extraordinary quality of Château Canon over the past few vintages. A whopping 90% of Canon’s vines are planted on the plateau of St-Émilion, 70% of which is Merlot with the rest Cabernet Franc. A stunningly picturesque vineyard as it happens, workers during the harvest here are treated to gorgeous views of two church spires including the ancient St-Martin-de-Mazerat. This beauty is certainly translated through the vineyard’s terroir into a wine of transcendent polish and lifted elegance.HK$3,810.00 -

The 2018 La Croix St. Georges is powerful, inky and deep. There is quite a bit of up-front density and attack, but then some of that tapers off on the mid-palate and finish. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, rose petal, licorice and spice add to the wine's racy, super-ripe profile. I find the 2018 just a touch on the heavy side. Even so, there is plenty of potential.HK$5,585.00 -

The second wine of Château Montrose is a major star in its own right. With dense tannins and concentrated black fruits, it has power and richness. The wine's potential, impressive for a second wine, is very evident in the structure. Drink from 2026.HK$3,905.00 -

The 2018 La Fleur (Dassault) is racy and sumptuous to the core. Inky red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, sweet spice and mint are all laced together. This luscious, creamy Saint-Émilion has plenty to offer. Fine tannins support a finish of real substance and persistence.HK$3,000.00 -

The 2018 La Fleur de Boüard is very well defined on the nose, gorgeous scents of blackberry, blueberry, violet and potpourri bursting from the glass but retaining fine delineation and focus. The palate is crisp on the entry, with graphite-tinged black fruit framed by fine tannins and a structured, tensile finish. This is one of the best La Fleur de Boüard vintages that I have encountered. Excellent.HK$2,335.00
