Vinous - Neal Martin (89)
The 2012 Fourcas Hosten has more definition and focus than the 2011, offering higher-toned and more vivacious black fruit laced with cedar and crushed stone. There is something almost Pauillac-like about this Listrac. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and well-judged acidity. It firms up toward the fresh finish, which has just the right amount of dryness and grip and an appealing marine tinge. This is worth seeking out.HK$1,595.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (87)
The 2014 Fourcas Hosten has a pleasant, clean bouquet that lacks the presence and concentration I expect from this decent vintage. It seems a little diffuse compared to, say, the 2012 or 2016. The palate is balanced with grainy tannins, and quite compact, leading to a bitter cherry and blackberry finish. It does not quite knit together as well as I was hoping, hence my prudent score.HK$1,785.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (86)
The 2015 Fourcas Hosten has a bullish, quite extravagant bouquet of high-toned blackberry and blueberry fruit; there is a sense of trying too hard to make up for the lackluster prior vintage. The medium-bodied palate shows grainy tannins that frame the tarry black fruit, and hints of pencil lead and white pepper. What this 2015 lacks is a bit of charm and elegance. There is also a sour note on the aftertaste. So-so.HK$1,840.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 2016 Fourcas Hosten is much better on the nose compared to the 2015, exhibiting more delineation and precision, and capturing your attention with plenty of vibrant blackberry and raspberry fruit laced with cedar and blood orange. The palate is well balanced with slightly chalky tannins, minerally black fruit and touches of cedar and mint. There is a sense of cohesion and confidence on the finish. This did not shine out of barrel, but now in bottle with a bit of age, it is growing in stature.HK$2,290.00 -

The 2017 Fourcas Hosten is admittedly a bit of a comedown after the high point of the previous vintage. This is much more introverted and earthy on the nose, missing the fruité of the 2016. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannins and modest depth, but as before, I still find the finish rather dry.HK$1,755.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (88+)
The 2018 Fourcas Hosten confirmed my findings from my in-bottle report. Blackberry and seaweed scents feature on the nose, along with hints of tobacco (perhaps less prominent than before). The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity, and this bottle is suppler than the previous one, with a little more spiciness surfacing toward the finish. Give it 2–3 years in bottle.HK$1,860.00 -

(6x150cl) 2019Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 2019 Fourcas Hosten offers plenty of juicy ripe red berry fruit on the nose, which is more forward than the 2019 Clarke. Red plum and mulberry develop with aeration, along with a touch of black currant pastilles and even a light confit scent. The palate is medium-bodied with a grippy entry, a slightly granular texture and a fine bead of acidity, though at the moment it feels a little hemmed in on the finish. I suspect that this may close down in bottle, but it has the substance to age well. Also, at 13.3% on the label, this is one of the lower-alcohol Left Bank wines.HK$1,515.00 -

The 2020 Fourcas Hosten displays very good intensity on a nose of ebullient blackberry, cedar and crushed violet scents that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins. A slight herbaceous element lends freshness, and white pepper and graphite appear toward the grippy, almost sinewy finish. This is quite a bold Listrac that will require 4–5 years in bottle, but it comes across as cohesive and shows good cellaring potential.HK$1,755.00 -

The 2021 Fourcas Hosten is quite concentrated on the nose, offering black cherries, blueberry and floral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly drier tannins than its peers, quite masculine and a little austere but culminating in a pleasant tobacco-tinged finish. Fine.HK$1,225.00 -

Cassis, smoky herbs, leather, and attractive spicy notes all emerge from the 2022 Château Fourcas Hosten, a charming, medium-bodied, beautifully balanced Listrac based on 53% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot. I like it today, yet it should keep nicely for a solid 10-15+ years if well stored.HK$1,095.00 -

The 2015 Franc-Mayne has a refined and detailed bouquet with blackberry, raspberry coulis and a touch of cedar emerging from the glass. This is a classy bouquet in the making. The 2019 Frank Phélan is a very pretty, supple second wine that will drink well upon release. Inky dark fruit, licorice, spice, tobacco, dried herbs, lavender and mint all meld together in this supple, mid-weight Saint-Estèphe. There is plenty to like here. All the 2019 needs is élevage to soften the tannins.HK$1,135.00 -

The 2020 Frank Phélan, which will be released in 2023, has a well-defined nose, hints of black olive tinging the black fruit with raspberry and mulberry surfacing with time. As such, it's an early-drinking Saint-Estèphe that should give several years' drinking pleasure.HK$1,150.00 -
