Vinous - Ian D'Agata (88)
Inky ruby. Oak-spiced dark berries and cherry on the nose. Fleshy, rich dark red fruit flavors are lifted by a floral topnote and juicy acidity. Finishes with good back-end thrust, an echo of vanilla and slow-building, slightly gritty tannins. Still, this struck me as being well balanced and rounder than many other 2011 Saint-Emilions. Needs to be served with food.HK$3,855.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)
One of the under the radar gems of the vintage, the 2012 Villemaurine is striking from the outset. A dark, sumptuous Saint-Emilion, the 2012 possesses gorgeous richness to match its sensual personality. Black cherry, smoke, plum and spices are some of the many notes that emerge from this beautifully layered, inviting wine. The 2012 is 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Hubert de Bouard is the consulting winemaker.HK$3,630.00 -

The 2015 Villemaurine is blended of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aged in 70% new and 30% one-year-old oak barrels for 16 months. The 2019 Villemaurine, which was the final vintage under Justin Onclin, has a well-defined, focused bouquet of red berry fruit, touches of sous-bois and that marine scent that I noticed from the barrel sample. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. There is a veneer of new oak that needs to be subsumed, but this has a lovely plushness and sensuality toward the finish. Needs time, but it will be worth the wait.HK$4,010.00 -

The 2020 Villemaurine has a lovely bouquet with fine delineation and terroir expression, red and black fruit, crushed stone and light orange pith aromas. A second bottle exudes more of the Cabernet Franc and imparts a Medocian tincture. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy with a velvety texture, and great depth. It conveys wonderful detail on the finish. Excellent.HK$4,010.00 -

The 2021 Villemaurine is a wine of pure and total sensuality. Crushed rose petal, cinnamon, new leather, spice and tobacco are beautifully delineated. The 2021 is rich and heady, but also full of intrigue. This Villemaurine is not an obvious wine, as it can be, but it’s all there. Bright acids add salivating intensity on the long finish. Tasted two times.HK$1,690.00 -
Jeb Dunnuck (98)
A blend of 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Château Villemaurine is killer stuff, offering black raspberries, black cherries, violets, floral notes, and chalky minerality. Full-bodied, pure, deep, and seamless, it’s layered and rich yet incredibly balanced, with fine tannins and an elegant mouthfeel. Huge minerality and a liquid rock-like character make this a stunning effort. Aged for 16 months in 70% new and 30% one-year-old barrels, it’s going to evolve gracefully for 30+ years. Total production: 3,000 cases.HK$2,395.00 -

The 2014 Viñedo Chadwick has developed quite well for a challenging vintage that began with a devastating frost, resulting in predominantly second-crop fruit used in the finished wine. It also provides a glimpse into the stylistic changes occurring at Chadwick at the time, which focuses on a great sense of balance and vitality in the finished wines. Dark fruits, pipe tobacco and pencil-shaving aromas are followed by a rich, concentrated mouthfeel that shows the introverted nature of such a low-yielding vintage. The finish is stiff and structural, lingering with assertive tannins that frame a gourmand core. This may soften a bit more with additional time in the cellar, but I suspect it's drinking about as well as it ever will and should continue on that track for some time.HK$7,555.00 -

Abundant, ripe cherry and currant fruit, spice box, licorice and sweet tannin represent the inimitable Thunevin style. The wine has an expansive, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and beautiful purity. This is a gorgeous, sexy wine to drink over the next 10-15 years.HK$13,645.00 -
(1x150cl) 2015Jeb Dunnuck (93)
The 2015 Virginie De Valandraud is a gem made from 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, brought up all in new barrels. This beauty is loaded with notions of ripe black raspberries, cassis, and toasty oak, and hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, sweet tannin, and a great finish. It’s not the most intellectual wine, yet ticks all the right hedonistic pleasure boxes and is perfect for drinking over the coming 10-15 years.HK$1,155.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (93)
The 2016 Virginie de Valandraud is well defined and focused on the nose of blackberry, raspberry, crushed stone and rose petal aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very poised and harmonious, and supremely well-assimilated oak toward the poised, persistent finish. Superb. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.HK$950.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)
The 2017 Virginie de Valandraud is dark and rich in the glass, with a striking interplay of dense fruit and more floral, bright notes from the Cabernets in the blend. The 2017 is a gorgeous, super-expressive wine with a ton of potential. Moreover, the Virginie is a wine of real character.HK$3,180.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)
The 2018 Virginie de Valandraud is superb. Silky, pliant and expressive, the 2018 is wonderfully caressing right out of the gate. Crushed red berry fruit, mocha, spice and new leather all meld together effortlessly. From bottle, the 2018 is more refined and delicate than it was from barrel, and every bit as compelling. The Virginie is made from a collection of unclassed parcels around Valandraud and on the plains below the core holdings.HK$3,865.00
