(3x150cl) 2020Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)
The 2020 de Pressac is a wine of real charm and seduction. Bright floral and citrus notes drive a core of sweet red cherry fruit. Chalk, mint, white pepper, smoke and dried herbs lend notable aromatic complexity. As always, the blend includes Cabernet Franc plus drops of Malbec and Carménère, which lends quite a bit of nuance. The 2020 is an especially elegant Pressac. In my view, Pressac remains one of the most criminally underrated wines in all of Saint-Émilion. On the other hand, that makes it a screaming value.HK$1,670.00 -
(12x75cl) 2021Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92-94)
The 2021 de Pressac is one the under the radar gems in Saint-Émilion. Bright red/purplish fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice, mocha and new leather are all kicked up in a Saint-Émilion that balances fruit richness with energy. The 2021 is naturally not as deep or opulent as some recent vintages, but it nevertheless has plenty of complexity and character, not to mention the stylish personality that makes it one of the most distinctive wines in all of Bordeaux. Tasted three times.HK$2,980.00 -

Black cherries, red plums, spicy oak, and savory herb notes all emerge from the 2022 Château De Pressac, another ripe, medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated 2022 in the vintage that brings ample mid-palate depth, building yet ripe tannins, and outstanding length. Despite all its richness and depth, it holds onto a wonderful sense of freshness and minerality, and I suspect this will evolve gracefully for 20+ years in cold cellars. It needs an hour in a decanter if drinking anytime soon.HK$1,490.00 -

(12x75cl) 2017Jeb Dunnuck (90-93)
Château Desmirail looks to have turned out a sensational wine in the vintage, and their 2017 offers a forward, already irresistible style as well as loads of spicy red and black fruits, incense and spice aromas, and flavors. I love its purity of fruit, it has medium-bodied richness, and ripe tannin. Drink it on release and over the following 10-15 years.HK$3,355.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (93)
The 2018 Desmirail impressed out of barrel. Now bottled, it still represents one of the best vintages that I have tasted from this Margaux estate. Gorgeous blackberry and raspberry scents feature on the nose, the new oak supportive and beautifully enmeshed. The palate is very well balanced with supple tannins, a keen line of acidity and a chalky-textured finish that is extremely well focused. This is a great success for Denis Lurton and his team. Tasted twice with consistent notes.HK$3,665.00 -

Spicy oak, ripe black cherries, and floral nuances emerge from the 2022 Château Desmirail, a medium-bodied, elegant, seamless Margaux offering polished tannins, just about flawless balance, and a great finish. It's beautifully done and well worth seeking out. If it picks up weight with 2-4 years in the cellar, the score will seem low. The 2022 is 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.HK$3,830.00 -

(12x75cl) 2005Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-89)
Full ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry coulis, violet and bitter chocolate, complicated by smoky, toasty oak. Sweet, lush and ripe, with good depth to the black cherry and smoky oak flavors. Broad and mouthfilling. Finishes with dusty, sweet tannins that reach the front teeth. A very strong effort for this property. (I found the '06 lean and tart by comparison, in need of more sweetness and stuffing.)HK$7,250.00 -
(12x75cl) 2016Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)
The 2016 Destieux has turned out beautifully. A gorgeous, modern Saint-Émilion, Destieux offers tremendous depth and textural resonance from the outset. Dark, jammy fruit, chocolate, spice and new leather take on exotic shades of dimension. Destieux is a decidedly flamboyant Saint-Émilion endowed with superb richness and tons of sheer appeal. This is a terrific showing.HK$4,265.00 -

The 2018 Destieux has a lovely, ripe, blueberry and cassis scented bouquet with violet petals that emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet saturated tannins and moderate acidity. It lacks a little structure on the finish and the new oak is too vocal, but hopefully that will resolve itself by the time of bottling. Let’s see.HK$4,265.00 -

Beautiful cassis, ripe black cherries, spring flowers, and graphite notes all emerge from the 2019 Château Destieux, a medium to full-bodied, seamless, and remarkably pure Saint-Emilion. Based on two-thirds Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it shows the balance and elegance of the vintage, as well as incredible purity of fruit. It's already impossible to resist yet will evolve for well over two decades.HK$4,140.00 -

The 2020 Destieux has a clean but slightly overdone nose with light peppermint scents coming through with aeration. The palate is full-bodied with quite dense tannins. It's plush but less overbearing than I have found previous vintages of Destieux, managing to retain some freshness and precision on the finish. I'll keep an eye on this.HK$4,130.00
