Good deep, bright red. Pungent aromas of small wild berries, mint, rose petal and orange peel, plus a whiff of jammy blackberry. Marvelously silky and sweet, offering an uncanny combination of sheer concentration and inner-mouth perfume and vinosity. This struck me as almost more powerful than its 2010 sibling, with more of an impression of weight. Finishes with palate-staining persistence, a hint of violet and great snap.HK$111,270.00 -

There's only one barrel of this in 2012 (as there was in 2003 and 1998), but someone will be lucky enough to drink it. It's Christophe Roumier's most ambitous, ageworthy wine, with two thirds whole bunch fermentation, quite marked oak and dense, yet silky concentration, with notes of cinnamon and spice combining with the red and black fruits. Just less than 0.1 ha (a quarter of an acre). Ancient vines – 1905 or possibly older because the register of vineyards was rewritten in 1905 and when they didn’t know how old a vineyard was they just wrote 1905. His grandfather started as a share-cropper on this vineyard in 1924 and the vines were already old. 80% whole bunch. Barrel sample from a 2016 barrel that is three-quarters of the usual 228-litre size. Deep smudgy crimson. How can grapes become a wine like this? The aroma is outstanding. Deep not explosive, yet still with a prettiness in its seriousness. There’s red and dark fruit, there’s spice, there’s peony, there’s rocky minerality. Super-smooth tannins. Fine grained and not far off silky already. Pure, lifted and precise. Outstanding elegance and length.HK$132,670.00 -

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru has a fine degree of transparency and definition on the nose of perfumed red cherry and crushed strawberry; hints of blueberry surface with aeration. The oak is nicely integrated here. The palate is sappy on the entry, offering darker fruit than the nose suggests, touches of blood orange and cassis and a hint of menthol right on the finish. Delicious, and it should drink not so long after bottling.HK$14,870.00 -

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Véroilles consists of five barrels this year, two of them new. It has an elegant and composed bouquet that is perhaps the most harmonious of all the domaine's 2015s—pure red cherry, strawberry and cranberry scents infused with cold stone aromas. The palate is beautifully composed, beautifully delineated and damn well beautiful to drink. There is amazing energy here and outstanding sustain in the mouth. The best Veroilles produced at the domaine and goddammit, perhaps the finest premier cru Chambolle-Musigny that I have ever tasted from barrel.HK$19,505.00 -

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Beaux Bruns has a lilting nose of wild strawberry and redcurrant, nonchalant and precise, though not powerful in any way. The palate is elegant and fresh with crisp tannins, red merging into dark berry fruit towards the finish that is nicely structured, understated and with a faint marine influence. Bright red with ruby tones. Crushed black fruits and cherry on the nose, lifted by notes of mint, rock and orange zest. Pliant but firm wine with thickness, clarity and lift. Sappy flavors of medicinal dark cherry, spices and red licorice display excellent balance and depth. A strong performance for this cuvée, from a crop that was off by 50% due to the frost. The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Châtelots has an open, articulate nose that really expresses its terroir -- such fine mineralité here. The palate is strict and linear with dark berry/blackcurrant fruit, plenty of freshness and with a steely, precise finish that perhaps just needs a little more persistence. That may come by the time it is in bottle, but for now, it is the finesse that comes through in barrel.HK$7,765.00 -

Medium red. Sexy oak spices complement aromas of strawberry, rose petal, licorice and earth. Large-scaled, concentrated, creamy and rich; wonderfully generous and layered for the vintage, with its red fruit and spice flavors conveying captivating sweetness. This very young wine finishes with big, ripe tannins and terrific saline persistence. Some day this will be magnificent at the dinner table. The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny is a great introduction to the year. Dark cherries, plums and spices jump from the glass in a sensual, expressive Chambolle with tons of near-term appeal. Violets, rose petals and spices all flesh out on the radiant, expressive finish. The 2012 is a bit richer and broader than is normally the case, but there is plenty of vibrancy to balance the intensity of the fruit.HK$5,540.00 -

(13.5% alcohol; 30% vendange entier): Dark red-ruby. Wild aromas and flavors of black raspberry, earthy spices and mocha, with an element of menthol freshness providing lift. Round, fat and highly concentrated; boasts outstanding richness and depth but will need extended aging to deliver on its inherent complexity. The crop level here was just 25 hectoliters per hectare, or less than the Chambertins. Most promising today on spicy, rising, edge-free finish, which saturates every square millimeter of the palate with salty minerality and dark fruits. This wonderfully silky, classy Bonnes-Mares is from stony, whiter soil on the Chambolle side of the cru.HK$17,175.00 -

Here too the nose is quite restrained with its admirably pure aromas of red cherry, dark currant, spice and earth along with notes of violet and lavender. I very much like the sense of underlying tension to the succulent, indeed even juicy, medium weight plus flavors that exude a subtle salinity on the tautly muscular and firm finish that flashes just a hint of youthful austerity. This isn't quite as complex as the Chambertin but it's close and it may well close the gap over time as this is also very clearly structured for mid to even longer-term keeping.HK$4,460.00 -

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Bussières includes a small proportion of whole bunch fruit. It has a harmonious bouquet with red cherries and pomegranate aromas. I appreciate the definition and precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp and crunchy red berry fruit, very natural in style, pure and tensile with a dash of spice on the finish. The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, matured in 50% new oak, has a precocious bouquet with layers of opulent blackberry, cassis and redcurrant fruit, crushed violets bursting from the glass. This does not hold back. The palate is sweet and velvety smooth on the entry, fine tannins that frame the intense black cherry and cassis fruit with a judicious touch of spice towards the finish. The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is clearly darker in colour than its peers. It offers more fruit concentration and opulence on the nose—a rare facet in this growing season—with inky purple fruit and a floral component that emerges with time. The palate is sweeter and more fruit driven than its peers, with blackberry, blueberry and a light cassis note, though it does not have the complexity or terroir expression of its peers. The 2022 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru comprises two barrels, one new and one a year old. It has quite a backward nose, more tertiary in style, quite flinty, in fact. Blind, I would not guess this to be from this vineyard at all. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe black cherry and boysenberry fruit, fine mineralité and backbone. This is much more open, fanning out with style towards the finish that has just the right amount of edge. It's very fine but will require bottle age to unlock the aromatics.HK$10,215.00 -

(from a .123 ha parcel of 80+ year old vines situated mostly in terres blanches; about 600 bottles are produced each year). A discreet application of oak frames the overtly spice aromas of poached plum, dark cherry and violet. The rich, solidly concentrated and weighty larger-bodied flavors are at once supple yet powerful with a taut muscularity, all wrapped in a wonderfully persistent and complex finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny Village, which is matured in 20% new oak, has a very harmonious and quite intense bouquet with pure raspberry and wild strawberry scents unfurling. Bright full red. Very ripe, expressive aromas of roasted strawberry, mocha, cocoa powder and pepper. Lush, silky and fat; a very rich, dense Bonnes-Mares with a Bordeaux-like texture and lovely harmonious acidity. Doesn't offer the charm of Chambolle but this very solid wine has a strong tannic backbone for aging.HK$21,720.00
