Vinous (93)The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru has an outstanding bouquet - exquisitely defined red berry fruit with subtle earthy tones. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, plenty of tightly coiled red fruit with a citrus-fresh finish that revivified the senses and leaves you urging for the next sip. Superb and classy. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru comes from a parcel of 80-year-old vines, containing 25% whole bunch fruit and matured in 75% new oak. The bouquet is completely different from Les Hauts Doix, displaying more density, darker fruit, more substance and a less airy style, but still very pure and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is plenty of lightly spiced black fruit, gentle grip, an appealing sense of symmetry and a longer tail on the finish than the Les Haut Doix. Superb. |

Vinous (93)The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru is well defined on the nose with blackberry, freshly tilled soil, chalk and a light marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite focused and demonstrates a lovely briny, quite spicy finish that feels very cohesive. This should fulfil its potential from barrel. |

Vinous (90+)Full medium ruby. Aromas of blackberry, mint, wild herbs and menthol, plus a strong note of licorice pastille. Tightly wound and backward; comes across as drier than the Gevrey cuvées. Very pure and high-pitched but distinctly rigid today. Strong tannins saturate the front teeth and incisors. Tough going today and in need of patience. |

Vinous (93+)The 2011 Bonnes Mares needs time to fully come together. Today the whole clusters (80%) are a bit prominent. Savory herbs, tobacco, incense and orange peel all add layers of complexity to the dark fruit in a powerful, intense Burgundy that captures the essence of this site, albeit in a more medium-bodied style than is normal for this wine, but that is very much in line with the year. The 2011 is going to need at least another few years to be fully expressive. There is plenty of tannin and acidity to ensure years of fine drinking. |

Vinous (94)Very good deep, healthy red. The most floral of these 2014s, conveying lovely perfumed lift to the aromas of black fruits, spices and honeysuckle. Communicates wonderful ripeness and detail without any impression of heaviness or weight. Really superb energy here, no doubt partly due to the vinification with 80% whole clusters. Most impressive today on the very long, fine-grained finish, where the savory red fruit and blackberry flavors build slowly and linger long. This should be long-lived. |

Vinous (95)The 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a generous bouquet, the discreet stem addition lending an attractive leafiness that complements the brambly red fruit. More undergrowth scents emerge with time. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry, very plush but controlled, and despite the opulence, terroir floods through this Bonnes-Mares, which fans out wonderfully on the finish. This is an impressive showing and one of the best from the domaine this vintage. A long-term prospect. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. |

Burghound (93-96)A much more subtle though not invisible touch of oak surrounds the even more floral-inflected aromas of blue berry liqueur, anise, tea and newly turned earth. There is outstanding volume and mid-palate concentration thanks to the abundant dry extract that imparts a seductive quality to the mid-palate that contrasts considerably with the very, very structured and hugely long and powerful finish. This is an absolute knockout and would be a candidate for the Bonnes Mares of the vintage. |

Burghound (93-95)(from vines near the Morey border, 50% of which were planted in 1902; 100% whole clusters). Here there is no reductive funk as there is a lovely purity to the super-fresh and quite floral nose of red currants, spice and newly turned earth. There is an almost painful intensity to the highly energetic and tautly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that already offer impressive depth and sneaky good length. Despite having reasonable size and weight, this is not an especially big Bonnes Mares though it is one allied with plenty of power and punch. (93-95)/2036+ |

Vinous (92-94)The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has 100% whole bunch, though stems neatly enmeshed on the nose with hints of blueberry and cassis infusing the red fruit. A little timid at the moment, it will open with bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, just a little chewiness on the entry. Structured on the finish, this is quite a "serious" Bonnes-Mares that just needs to muster more charm on the finish. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90)The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has an open nose with clear whole cluster influence, a little stemmy, which becomes accentuated with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a raw entry, quite edgy tannins and a distinct green streak that runs from start to finish. Certainly some underripe fruit and tomato vine notes, though it is still appealing despite all that, perhaps terroir averting potential disaster. Fine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2009 Musigny is every bit as fabulous from bottle as it was from barrel. A knock-out bouquet leads to super-ripe, floral infused red berries. The 2009 boasts extraordinary perfume, silky tannins and phenomenal balance. I especially like the understated intensity. This is a breathtaking effort from Pierre Vincent and La Vougeraie. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. |

Wine Advocate (95-97)There are two barrels of the 2016 Musigny Grand Cru, one new and one used, 100% whole bunch. There is much more gusto on the nose compared to the Bonnes-Mares, with upfront, expressive red cherry, wild strawberry and cold stone aromas, later complemented by wilted rose petals and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied, but there is much more body and presence here compared to the Bonnes-Mares: fine tannin, just the right amount of salinité with a complex and sustained finish. There is a nobility about this Musigny, and that is what we expect to find in a bottle. Superb. |

Vinous (96)The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru has a complex nose with evidence of some stem addition here lending an underlying peppery character. You could argue that at this stage it rather obscures the terroir expression, though the whole bunch seems commensurate with the fruit. The palate is crisp and precise, the stems lend a discrete peppery character. Not a powerful Musigny, yet perhaps the most elegant with a sensual kirsch-, liquorice-tinged finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. |
