The 2013 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is blossoming into a gorgeous wine. It has an attractive, pure and winsome bouquet with dark berry fruit, crushed stone and undergrowth aromas supremely well bound together by the oak. So precise and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, edgy and precise with just the right amount of salinity towards the finish. Très Grand Cru. (50% new oak; vinified with two-thirds whole clusters): Healthy medium red. Knockout nose combines musky raspberry and complex soil tones. Began a bit monolithic on the palate, but aeration brought an increasingly silky texture and a captivating blend of raspberry and crushed rock lifted by spices. Still youthfully tight, this rather saline Chambertin is just beginning to express itself. Finishes with serious tannins and outstanding length. One can feel the power here, but this very tactile wine is quite unevolved. The finish offers terrific definition and lift.HK$5,995.00 -

The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru has a tight-lipped bouquet that demands coaxing from the glass; the 80% whole bunches imparts captivating undergrowth/damp moss aromas that filter through the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and quite dense, with grippy tannin and a light espresso note. I find the Mazis-Chambertin has a little more grace on the finish by direct comparison. (50% vendange entier; two-thirds new oak): Bright, dark red. Captivating nose combines raspberry, red licorice, iron, dried rose, mocha and minerals. all lifted by a high-pitched floral quality. Wonderfully juicy, intense and delineated, showing great energy but also considerable medicinal reserve. Silky and utterly weightless wine with great delicacy and outstanding balance. Healthy dark red. Brooding aromas of tart cherry stomp and red licorice; there's something cool and medicinal here that belies the sunny vintage. Wonderfully silky and savory on entry, then densely packed and almost painfully concentrated in the middle, showing a bulletproof quality to its flavors of red berries, minerals and rose petal. The explosive, slowly building finish saturates the palate with salty minerality. Still a total baby, this wine will need to be forgotten in the cellar for a decade. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, dark berry fruit that is a little dominated by the wood regime at the moment. The tannins here are fine-grained and tightly-stitched to the abundant fruit. This long-finishing beauty represents a fine tribute to the team here as well as to these superbly-situated vines. The palate is stunning: wonderful focus, so much tension and you can really feel the calcaire on the tensile finish. Vines planted in 1960. Destemmed whole berries with a light cold soak. Three weeks’ maceration in total. 35% new oak. Two months in stainless steel after 18 months in oak. Very heavy bottle... Mid crimson – not an eye-catching grand cru intensity of colour. Heady nose with the merest suggestion of decay. Masses of sweetness and still a bit of dusty tannin and introspection. There is so much here but it’s not quite ready for public display. Truly massive in scale – this wine is still a bit brutal. For the moment it’s a little dry on the end.HK$6,680.00
