Good bright red-ruby. Good lift to the aroma of black fruits and violet. Dense, juicy and savory, with a distinctly dark cast to the nicely concentrated flavors of black fruits and violet. Solidly structured, chewy wine with a long, saline aftertaste. Tremblay noted that Vosne-Romanee had considerably less rain in early September than did Chambolle.HK$80,655.00 -

Good full red. A raspberry aroma is complicated by wild notes of game and smoky lees. At once dense and juicy, showing excellent creamy depth for village wine. Really spreads out on the back end to saturate the entire palate. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and serious structure. This wine is always large-scaled and reduced in the early going, notes Tremblay, and is generally the last to be bottled. Should make a superb village wine.HK$6,060.00 -
Vinous (89-91)
Good dark red. Reticent aromas of black cherry, violet and minerals, complicated by a hint of bitter chocolate. Juicy and tightly wound; not a sweet or generous style but reveals lovely salinity and subtle dark fruit intensity with aeration. This youthfully reserved village wine is solidly structured but not hard, finishing with firm but even tannins. Ultimately a bit more generous than the Morey-Saint-Denis Très Girard, with the tannins more enrobed by fruit and mineral extract. Tremblay won't do her first racking until she assembles the wines next April in preparation for bottling in July. I take my time, she told me.HK$6,565.00 -

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes, matured in 50% new oak with 25% whole bunches, has an aromatic, very floral bouquet, scents of pressed violets intermingling with the black plum and bilberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, finely judged acidity and good balance and matière toward the almost citrus-like finish. Excellent.HK$54,875.00 -

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes, which contains a little whole bunch, has a tightly-wound bouquet with dark berry fruit, incense and touches of sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with an edgy, peppery entry. Quite structured for a Vosne-Romanée, the finish is reminiscent of a Morey-Saint-Denis.HK$8,230.00 -

(from south-facing vines on shallow soil, planted in 1928; 70% vendange entier Good ruby-red. Superripe, soil-driven nose dominated by smoky, flinty minerality. Creamy-rich and very ripe but not overly sweet on the palate. A big, strong, somewhat warmer style of wine, quite different in style from the last few samples, and not yet showing the aromatic complexity of the Rouges du Dessus. Tremblay uses Tron c ais oak here, which contributes a vanilla quality. Finishes classically dry and long, with mouthdusting tannins.HK$112,365.00 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouge du Dessus is arguably the hidden jewel in Cecile Tremblay's lineup. Layers of deeply spiced dark fruit jump from the glass in a wine of extraordinary purity. The brush strokes are broad in a wine with massive tannins and equally rich fruit. All the 2012 needs is time. Today it is embryonic, but dazzling all the same. The 2012 was vinified with 70% whole clusters.HK$40,260.00 -
Vinous (91-93)
Bright red-ruby. Very pure, perfumed aromas and flavors of blackberry, boysenberry, minerals, violet and cocoa powder. Sappy and tightly wound, conveying a powerful impression of vinosity thanks to its pungent minerality. The pH here of 3. 45 is the lowest in the cellar in 2014. Indeed, this wine shows a distinctly cool quality in the context of the vintage, and finishes with excellent chewy length. Tremblay told me that the 2008 version of this wine was paired by a chef with a tuna dish during a trip to Tokyo and that the combination was perfect.HK$22,715.00 -

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges du Dessus 1er Cru has a clean and fresh bouquet with perfumed Morello and strawberry shortcake aromas, all well defined. Exuberant is the word that comes to mind. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that frame a sweet, confit-like core of red fruit with hints of marmalade and blood orange towards the seductive finish. Very fine, but a Vosne-Romanée I might broach in the more immediate term. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.HK$8,300.00 -

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru seems to have been born to embarrass my rather tepid reaction to this wine from barrel. Wow! This has me smitten. It offers a very floral, seductive bouquet with pressed violet petals liberally scattered over the black cherry and wild strawberry fruit, and just a hint of vanilla in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin. This is very cohesive, harmonious and silky-smooth in texture, with a light touch of blood orange and brown spices that impart complexity on the finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.HK$6,390.00 -
Burghound (92-94)
A relatively deeply pitched nose offers plenty of both floral and spice elements along with notes of plum, dark cherry and a touch of Asian-style tea. As is usually the case there is excellent volume and a taut muscularity to the sappy broad-shouldered flavors that flash superb depth and persistence. Note well though that this classic example is definitely built-to-age and is going to need at least most of a decade to be approachable. Recommended.HK$6,470.00 -

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru is showing some reduction on the nose, slightly smudged red fruit, leather and undergrowth. It does seem to gain clarity with modest aeration though. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, taut and crisp, quite linear with fine sapidity on the structure, backward finish. A Premier Cru with a long future ahead. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.HK$7,900.00 -

(from a large 1.76 ha parcel). Here too there is enough wood to notice but not to intrude on the exceptionally spicy and overtly floral-suffused nose of dark currant and plum. There is outstanding intensity, muscle and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract on the sappy, mouth coating, robust and youthfully austere finish that goes on and on. This is excellent and worth checking out. (92-94)/2037+HK$6,395.00 -
Burghound (89-91)
Much more subtle wood sets off overtly spicy aromas of cassis, black cherry and violet scents. The wonderfully seductive flavors possess a velvety and caressing texture while delivering sneaky good length on the firm but balanced structure. This is inviting but serious and it should repay up to a decade of cellaring. Worth checking out.HK$2,470.00 -

(10% vendange entier Deep ruby-red. Wild black raspberry, violet, crushed rock, mint and pepper, plus a whiff of chocolatey ripeness. Powerful, dense and sappy on entry, then superripe but bright in the middle, with a strong limestone quality that really tickles the taste buds. Finishes very long and vibrant, with terrific lift for the year. This cuvee has been especially impressive since the 2008 vintage.HK$115,745.00 -

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2009 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots has a divine bouquet, beautifully defined with precise red cherries, blood orange, wild strawberry and striking mineral scents that elevate this Aux Reignots above previous vintages. The palate is very precise and poised, very animated and tense, the oak seamlessly integrated. This is a class act, the one that really gets hold of this premier cru and exploits it to the full. This is wonderful. Tasted June 2015.HK$313,245.00 -

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots, which was bottled in April 2015, already has plenty of primary red berry fruit on the nose that feels very pure - mulberry and maraschino cherry. The palate continues really where the 2012 left off: quite wondrous delineation and tension from start to finish, perhaps edgier than the 2012, with a precise finish that has the perfect amount of sappy red berry fruit. One of the best Aux Reignots in recent years, one that has really elevated to another level since I tasted in from barrel. Tasted June 2015.HK$91,400.00 -
Vinous (92-95)
Bright red-ruby. Aromas of black raspberry and pungent minerality show a deep note of coffee reduction. Large-scaled, dry and classic, and quite backward and uncompromising today, with flavors of dark berries, smoke and crushed rock saturating the palate. Dusty tannins spread out horizontally on the vibrating, stony back end. Here's another 2016 that will require patience. Superb potential.HK$24,040.00 -

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru has a lot of fruit on the nose (mulberry, red plums and crushed strawberry) and comes across plush and quite oaky, with a little reduction to address. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins and quite rounded, though at the moment, this is dictated by the new oak, which renders the finish a bit generic. The oak may well be absorbed with age, allowing the fruit to shine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.HK$25,480.00 -

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru has another rather reduced bouquet, but there is plenty of red fruit here, touches of blood orange and hints of violet and after 20 minutes there is a palpable sense of exuberance. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite fleshy with fine grip and backbone. Fresh and delineated on the finish, this is a lovely Vosne-Romanée that should age well in bottle. The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru was showing just a small reduction on the nose, but that is shaken off with some aeration to reveal intense dark plum and citrus fruit plus touches of blood orange. The palate is velvety-smooth with finely pitched acidity and good tension. Quite sappy toward the finish, with the structure and persistence one expects from such a noble Premier Cru.
