Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-89)Bright medium ruby. Dark berries and flowers on the nose. Supple and silky in the style of the year, with fine-grained berry and mineral flavors lifted by a floral component. Finishes with good spine and perfume.

Vinous (90)The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village has an exquisite, pure red cherry and wild strawberry scented bouquet. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannin, slightly confit in style, hints of blood orange and vanilla towards the enticing finish. Excellent, but very seductive. Tasted at the Domaine.

Vinous (90)The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Village is quite closed on the nose but eventually delivers attractive blackberry, briar and crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, and quite dense for a Village Cru, leading into a sappy, quite serious finish. It will need 3–5 years in bottle.

Vinous (89-91)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village, raised in around 25% new oak, has a very intense bouquet of black cherries and light iodine aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit tinged with graphite, leading to a precise finish that does not outstay its welcome. Very fine, but it will require three or four years in bottle.

Vinous (91)The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village offers slightly meaty red fruit comingling with scorched earth and tobacco. The palate is marked by fine-grain tannins, but this is very fresh with orange rind decorating its surprisingly structured on the finish. Very fine.

Vinous (88-90)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Village, the usual five parcels from four climats, was showing just a light reduction on the nose that made it difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, nicely structured (almost Morey-like) with white pepper and sous-bois towards the finish. Not bad, though it needs just a little more clarity.

Vinous (96+)Bright full red. Wild, expressive aromas of raspberry, flinty minerality and pungent spices. Delivers outstanding power and palate-staining richness, with intense, sweet berry and dark cherry fruit complicated by saline, soil-driven minerality. This complex and complete, if youthfully strict, wine is the total package. With its noble, harmonious tannins and echoing fruits and minerals, this great grand cru saturates every square millimeter of the palate.

Vinous (95)The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru has a deep, broody nose of dark berry fruit, crushed stone, espresso and touches of allspice. Aeration really benefits these aromatics and allows them to open and gain more red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a lactic note on the entry, and quite oaky, though it is simpatico with the concentrated fruit. Displaying great depth and backbone, this is a powerful and aristocratic Grand Cru that will require several years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Vinous (95)The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru has a very intense bouquet, a mélange of red and black fruit, crushed rose petals, baking powder and black truffle aromas; this is very complex. The palate is fresh on the entry with crisp acidity, the 40% whole cluster lending tension and pepperiness, and grippy on the broody, slightly austere finish. This will need several years in bottle. Maybe a bit saturnine at the moment, but it will find more luminosity with bottle age.
