Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru comes from iron-rich clayey soils and contains two-thirds whole cluster this year. It has a lovely bouquet of red berry fruit laced with slate and bay leaf aromas, very well defined and absorbing the 25% new oak easily. The palate is well balanced with a mineral-rich entry, a fine bead of acidity and touches of brown spice sprinkled over the red fruit. The stony, terse finish indicates that it could age for longer than many will grant it.HK$3,750.00 -

One third whole bunch, 25% new wood. Pretty mid purple. Succulent fruit stands out more here than the sometimes more austere Grèves character. Rich, intense, deep cherry fruit with a sterner backbone in the mouth, all the intensity is at the back. This has the focus that we expect from Grèves. Tasted: October 2020HK$765.00 -

The 2020 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru is also one-third whole-cluster (based on fitting it on the cuve so it was more than intended). Dark berry fruit, a touch of black olive and hints of presses iris petal unfold on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, granular in texture with a fresh, slightly chalky finish. Very fine. Closure: DiamHK$8,555.00 -

Vinous (87-89)
The 2021 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru, which includes 50% whole bunches, was taken from barrel. It has an attractive nose with brambly red fruit, tertiary notes and touches of cigar humidor. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins and moderate depth, but I feel there is a tad too much whole bunches on the finish here, and it is obfuscating the terroir expression.HK$8,655.00 -

Palish red. More stony on the nose than the Sizies, with a perfumed quality to the strawberry, cherry and menthol aromas. A step up in texture and sweetness, displaying an element of smoky minerality and a slightly edgy quality on the plate. Finishes with a firm mineral spine and an herbal nuance.HK$8,745.00 -
Vinous (90-92)
(two-thirds vendange entier; 25% new oak): Bright, full red. Distinctly limestone-driven aromas of raspberry, earth and smoky minerality. Silky, sappy and impressively concentrated, with black raspberry and cooler cherry flavors framed and enlivened by brisk acidity. The serious, broad tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's fruit flavors to carry well on the aftertaste.HK$5,275.00 -
Vinous (89-91)
(20% new oak and one-third vendange entier; the average vine age here is 50 years): Medium red. More delicate on the nose than the Les Sizies, offering scents of strawberry and stone. Then juicier and more energetic on the palate, showing lovely precision and penetration to its red fruit and saline mineral flavors. On the lean side but the firmly tannic finish leaves behind a salty tang. Winemaker Brian Sieve describes the estate's Perrières holding as our most active limestone site along with the Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Thoreys. This wine started its malolactic fermentation sur marc--i.e., in the tank before the alcoholic fermentation finished.HK$5,024.00 -
(1x75cl) 2017Vinous (90-92)
The 2017 Beaune Les Perrières 1er Cru includes one-third whole clusters and matures in around 20% new oak. It has a small reduction on the nose but underneath are lively red and black fruit sporting a faint marine influence. The palate is well balanced with fleshy red fruit, quite sumptuous in the mouth with a caressing red cherry and crushed strawberry finish laced with white pepper. This should offer a decade’s worth of drinking pleasure.HK$840.00 -

The 2020 Beaune Les Perrières 1er Cru is matured with one-third whole cluster and went through a late malolactic. The whole cluster is quite expressive here, peppery and quite vibrant, a light marine influence coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, very well balanced, fine backbone with a lightly spiced finish. This has real character and terroir expression.HK$6,875.00 -
Vinous (88-90)
The 2018 Beaune Les Sizies 1er Cru is made with one-third whole cluster this year. It has a slightly smudged bouquet of raspberry and strawberry fruit that needs to attain more clarity by the time of bottling. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity that renders it much fresher and more tensile than the aromatics at the moment, although I would have liked a little more length.HK$5,265.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)
One third whole bunch and 15% new wood. No great depth of colour, but an attractive medium depth of cherry and raspberry fruit. The soil retains the water here, which is nowadays a good thing. Shows a bit of oak at the back in this early stage, but the fruit retains its fresh and bright qualities. Tasted: October 2020HK$2,775.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-91)
One third whole bunch, selected from the middle-aged vines not the old or the young. Mid purple, with an unassertive nose. Quite firm and crunchy behind, with just 12.8% alcohol. Tasted: October 2021HK$5,680.00 -

Cool and airy aromas are comprised by notes of red cherry, plum and hints of violet and anise. The mouthfeel of the middleweight flavors is wonderfully sleek and energetic that contrasts with the chalky, dusty compact and somewhat short finish.HK$6,205.00 -

The 2018 Bourgogne Rouge contains a little more whole cluster this year and is matured in 5% new oak. It has a vibrant bouquet of crunchy blackberry and raspberry fruit. The palate is well balanced with chalky tannins and modest depth. Quite minerally in the mouth, leading to a vibrant finish. This is a lovely generic red Burgundy.HK$3,190.00 -
(3x150cl) 2019Vinous (85-87)
The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge from the domaine includes one-third whole cluster fruit, unlike the Maison cuvée, which is completely destemmed. It has crisp dark berry fruit on the nose plus just a touch of Earl Grey. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, brighter and punchier than the Maison Bourgogne Rouge, and peppery on the finish.HK$2,945.00 -

Vinous (91-93)
(vinified entirely with whole clusters; 40% new oak): Good full red. Lovely high-pitched aromas of black cherry, blackberry, licorice and violet. Deep, sappy and vinous, with an enticing savory/sweet quality to the intense flavors of wild dark berries, violet and graphite. Finishes with firm-edged tannins, a very primary medicinal black cherry note, and lovely floral lift. This will need at least four or five years of bottle aging. Chef de cave Sieve noted that the domain owns parcels on either side of the tower in Clos Vougeot, with part of its vines located in a frost pocket that was hit hard in December of 2009.HK$1,395.00 -
(6x75cl) 2012Vinous (93-95)
A deep, structured wine, the 2012 Clos Vougeot boasts superb intensity to match its expressive, layered personality. Blue and black-toned fruit, cloves, leather and violets. Next to the Corton, the ClosVougeot is dense and resonant, with multiple dimensions that slowly reveal themselves with time. Today, the 2012 is massive and imposing, yet I find a level of purity in the fruit that is absolutely striking.HK$11,660.00 -
Wine Advocate (93-95)
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is one-third whole cluster, less than in recent years according to winemaker Brian Sieve, with almost 50% new oak. It has a beautiful bouquet with scents of blackberry, raspberry coulis, crushed strawberries and seams of wet limestone underneath. The oak is seamlessly integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very focused and taut with pure black cherry and crushed strawberry on the tensile finish. This is a very stylish, quite ambitious Clos de Vougeot. Excellent.HK$17,685.00 -
