Another wine in the cellar that was late to finish its malolactic fermentation, the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées was easier to read in November than when I first tasted it in September. Revealing aromas of cherries, raspberries and plums, complemented by hints of musk, orange rind and sweet soil tones, it's medium to full-bodied, muscular and layered, with a deep and concentrated core, lively acids and powdery tannins.HK$5,150.00 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru had a very tardy malo and consequently had been dosed with SO2 just 10 days earlier. Containing 60% whole bunch, this has a generous red cherry and cranberry fruit, pressed flowers and brown spices. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, a crisp line of acidity, grippy in the mouth but with ample freshness on the finish. Excellent, though cut from a different cloth due to its more clayey soils.HK$4,750.00 -

Mid purple, not so much distinction coming from the nose. But an impressive depth of fruit behind, really singing. Now the fruit comes out. There is a sumptuous aspect to the fruit halfway to grand cru, though nothing vulgar. Perhaps just a mite chunky. Long finish on pure red fruit. Drink from 2027-2033.HK$1,235.00 -

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru, which had just been racked and includes 50% whole bunches, opens wonderfully on the nose: quite minerally, very graceful, wild strawberry, cranberry and blood orange aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid red fruit, fine grip, and a touch of bitter cherry lending to the natural energy of this Les Fuées. Matured entirely in new oak, I must admit that the wood drives the finish a little, but that will be assimilated with time. Great potential.HK$9,587.60 -

Cordon-pruned, low-yielding and situated in a sunny climat, this cuvée sometimes gets very ripe, but the 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées is beautifully balanced, revealing aromas of dark berries, potpourri, spices and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and harmonious palate.HK$8,105.00 -

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Lavrottes 1er Cru, which sees 50% new oak, was showing some reduction when I visited the domaine, though there appears to be fine fruit concentration. The fresh, vibrant palate is vivid and tensile, offering crisp, slightly chalky tannin and crunchy red fruit mixed with blueberry toward the finish. There is good backbone here, and so this will deserve at least four to six years in bottle. Excellent.HK$6,270.00 -

Notes of cherries, raspberries and cassis mingle with hints of forest floor and spices in an incipiently complex bouquet, introducing the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Lavrottes, a medium to full-bodied, rich and structured wine that Felettig observes is always one of the slowest-evolving wines in the cellar. The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Lavrottes opens in the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums and forest floor, complemented by hints of sweet spices and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, mineral and incisive, it's concentrated and youthfully tightly wound, concluding with a youthfully grippy finish. The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is a blend of purchased fruit in Les Combottes and Felettig’s own fruit from Aux Combottes next to Christophe Roumier’s parcel. Containing 40% whole bunch, this was showing a bit of reduction on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins counterbalanced by fine acidity, a little earthiness towards the finish that maybe just needs a little more tension and energy. It will be interesting to revisit this after bottling.HK$7,040.00 -

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Clos le Village, picked 5 and 6 September with 20% whole bunch fruit, has a broody, introspective bouquet at first, tightly wound mulberry and blackberry fruit, a little earthy with undergrowth aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, the whole bunch not noticeable here, apart from a slight textural graininess towards the kirsch and soy-tinged finish. Whilst I prefer the Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes, this remains a fine contribution to the vintage and it should age with style.HK$4,980.00 -

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Clos le Village lost 40% of the production, less than others due to the protection of the church that lies in close proximity. Matured in 50% new oak, it has a clean and pure bouquet with Morello cherries, raspberry preserve and a touch of vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, the oak nicely integrated here and with good substance on the finish for a village cru. Merci à l'église!HK$2,080.00 -

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Clos le Village is matured in 50% new oak. Despite the small reduction, there is fine delineation on the nose, which offers black cherries, red currant jus and pressed violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, quite candied entry; blue and red fruit dominate here. The candied and quite extrovert finish reminds me of an Amiot-Servelle style of Chambolle. The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Clos de Village, which comes from a 0.5-hectare of vines, had not been racked. It has a cool, tertiary, tobacco-tinged bouquet - something almost autumnal about this Chambolle. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of cracked black pepper on the entry. The 40% whole bunch here just needs more time to integrate and allow the limestone soils to show through on the finish. Fine, but it will need bottle age.HK$2,755.00 -

Sample taken from new and one year old barrel. A rich and even purple, with a dash of new wood. The wood gives an extra dimension which will need to integrate but the essential joyous nature of this hillside vineyard shines through. Picked late with 30% whole bunch vinification. A fuller ruby purple, this has more substance than many a Rue de Vergy in 2023. The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges Village is a fine follow-up to the excellent 2018 rendition, bursting from the glass with notes of wild berries, orange rind, warm spices and rich soil tones. Medium-bodied, lively and precise, it's deep and concentrated, with a seamless profile and beautifully powdery tannins. Cropped at a modest 30 hectoliters per hectare, it's a cuvée that seems to go from strength to strength as yields fall.HK$2,620.00
