This Burgundy-based vintner, Genot Boulanger, meticulously cultivates vines on 22 hectares with resolute commitment to biodynamic practices. • Genot-Boulanger Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2018 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93)

The 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has an intriguing bouquet of dark cherries, bergamot and cassis, retaining the opulent aromatics that I noted last year. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, and quite closed at the moment, with a mineral-driven finish. This will certainly need 4–5 years to open, but there is good potential for this sturdy Clos Vougeot.

  • Genot-Boulanger Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93-95)

The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru comes from the Les Baudes Bas lieu-dit, enclosed within the Louis Jadot parcel where the soils are particularly clayey. It has a very aromatic and floral bouquet featuring bunches of red roses and peony. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This is very smooth and silky. Not a deep Clos Vougeot, nor is there a tremendous amount of grip, yet it feels long and tender on the finish, which lingers in the mouth. Superb.

  • Genot-Boulanger Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2020 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93-95)

The 2020 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru had just a very tiny reduction on the nose (the wine had not been racked, so expected), though there is plenty of fruit here. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine weight, slightly granular in texture with good concentration and structure towards the persistent finish. This has pedigree.

  • Genot-Boulanger Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2021 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91-93)

The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru shows a little reduction on the nose, but it opens nicely with red plum and raspberry fruit, loam and undergrowth scents percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, gentle grip and a fine bead of acidity; a judicious touch of pepper appears towards the finish. There is an abiding sense of harmony here.

  • Genot-Boulanger Corton Grand Cru Les Combes 2020 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91-93)

The 2020 Corton Les Combes Grand Cru has a very open-knit and transparent bouquet with red cherries, wet limestone and light sea spray scents. The palate is well balanced with a pleasant rondeur on the entry. Maybe a little higher in pH than its peers, smooth and pliant for a Corton, this fans out gently and reassuringly on the finish. Despite its Grand Cru status, this should be pleasurable in its youth.

  • Genot-Boulanger Pommard Vv 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (89-91)

The 2019 Pommard Vieilles Vignes is a blend of Les Cras, Les Vignots and La Chanière. It has a well-defined and quite earthy bouquet of red berry fruit. The palate is well balanced with crunchy red berry fruit laced with a splash of balsamic. The parcels ripened at different times due to variations in microclimates, and that engenders a more complex Pommard. Fine salinity toward the finish, and a minerally aftertaste. Very fine.

  • Georges Jayer (par E. Rouget) Echezeaux Grand Cru 2002 (12x75cl)

    Burghound (94)

An overtly spicy and beautifully nose is showing only traces of secondary fruit and ample Vosne character. There is both good richness and mid-palate density to the utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors that display good underlying tension while culminating in a wonderfully complex, lingering and balanced finale. Moreover, it shows none of the sometimes shrill acidity of the 2002 reds and thus the overall sense of balance is really quite lovely. I've had this several times over the years and it has always shown well. I would add that for my taste, this beauty is drinking perfectly now but it should continue to hold for at least another decade and perhaps more.

    Wine Advocate (93-94)

A sweet, spicy profusion of cinnamon, ginger, cocoa powder, lily perfume, maraschino, and kirsch soars from the glass of Rouget 2006 Echezeaux, which comes to the palate with unexpected depth and richness of roasted meats, chalk, and saline savor, though to be sure, the bright red fruits and spices never flag. This is positively vibratory as well as riveting in its dynamic, oscillating finishing complexity. I'd give it 3-4 years head start and then plan to follow it for another decade.

  • Georges Lignier Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2015 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92+)

Palish red with a hint of amber. A bit cooler and more peppery than the Clos Saint-Denis and Clos de la Roche, with its reticent red fruit aromas complicated by herbs and menthol. Then densely packed, savory and intense, more about soil tones than primary fruit. Not a sweet style but youthfully penetrating. Finishes sweet, slightly medicinal and classically dry, with lingering salty and spicy qualities. A rather rigorous wine in the context of the vintage, but then this is Bonnes-Mares, which has traditionally been one of Burgundy's longest-aging grand crus.
