  • Laurent Ponsot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvee du Cypres 2019 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (94)

From a parcel located in Charmes, down-slope from Chambertin, this is slightly backwards at present, with a bit of reduction, but behind these aromas there is plenty of sumptuous, bright red berry fruit. The texture is firm and fresh, with the grip and intensity to age well. Although it does not have the intensity or persistence of the Chambertin, it resembles it in its vibrant elegance and balance.

  • Laurent Ponsot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvee du Cypres 2020 (6x75cl)

    Burghound (94)

There is an appealing spiciness to the fresh and bright aromas of mostly red currant and warm earth. The delicious, detailed and nicely vibrant middleweight flavors possess excellent depth and persistence on the equally built-to-age finish where a touch of austerity slowly emerges as it sits on the palate. This is presently quite tightly wound though I suspect that it will be reasonably approachable after 7 to 8 if you don't wish to wait for full maturity.

  • Laurent Ponsot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Cuvee du Cedre 2016 (6x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-94)

Pink red purple, the fruit is lively but not too powerful, but the structure is surprisingly austere. While there is plenty of fruit, the structure is currently angular and the wine will need to fill out. In the balance.

A cool, airy and even spicier nose is composed by ultra-pure red berries and exotic jasmine tea. There is a lovely energy suffusing the refined and detailed medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a beautifully long if decidedly serious, compact and moderately austere finale that also reflects a trace of warmth. This needs to develop better depth but that shouldn't be an issue provided one is sufficiently patient.
