(6x150cl) 2010Vinous (92-94)
(aging in two-thirds new oak): Dark red. Black fruits, flowers, minerals and licorice on the vibrant nose, plus a whiff of truffle; I would have picked this blind as a Cote de Nuits wine. Dense, sappy and sweet but with a light touch and excellent definition thanks to its firm underlying minerality. At once delicate and strong, finishing spicy and long, with a flavor of crunchy berries. Not an earthy style of Corton.HK$19,550.00 -

Medium red, a bit pale at the rim. Soil-inflected aromas of red fruits, potpourri spices, minerals, flowers and truffle. Plush, rich and fine-grained, showing terrific volume and breadth and a restrained sweetness to the flavors of red fruits, smoke and earth. This seamless, stylish wine boasts strong soil tones and an inviting, very smooth finish. A beauty--and perhaps deceptively accessible today.HK$5,865.00 -

Confected, candied red fruit on the nose, with rich spices too. Tight tannin, long fruit concentration on the finish. Should unfurl in due course and develop secondary flavours from that intense core fruit.HK$5,195.00 -
(1x150cl) 2018Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Naughty heavy bottle. Focused, dusty and earthy cranberry fruit. Precise and chiselled palate, with lovely fluidity and a long, floral finish. Likely to be ready earlier, but to give lots of pleasure. Elegant burgundy.HK$2,440.00 -

Cask sample. Mid garnet. Pale shaded rim. Intense nose with some sweet-and-salty character. It's not especially weighty but the nose is definitely more intense than that of the premiers crus. Edgy red-fruit and tamarind character. A bold wine. Long with quite a dry finish at this point.HK$6,395.00 -

These vines sit at 270 meters and more or less right on the limestone slab of the old quarry. Dried cranberries and pomegranate seeds offer tingly fruit vibrancy that gives the fruit a lofty, airy quality. The tannins tenderly nudge at the sides of the palate and fade gently on the lingering finish. 2023-30HK$3,000.00 -

More crimson than purple, with a lifted nose with strawberry smoky notes from 50% whole bunch. Very pretty indeed. Let’s see if there is enough depth on the palate for grand cru. Yes, there is a delicious weight of cherry and strawberry fruit in the middle with an infusion of white pepper, but nothing dry on the finish. 4 stars if you like whole clusters, three if not. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted: November 2022HK$5,887.00 -

Mid to deep crimson. Cooked strawberries on the nose. Not really cooked, crushed and peppery really. 50% whole bunches can be seen as well as the limestone aspect of the top of the hill. Almost floral, aiming at a more elegant style rather than a massive one, given the situation. But a very long finish. I was also shown an amphora version of the Corton which had a mid-crimson colour, with a dark raspberry and crushed strawberry nose. Like the Clos de la Mousse, the amphora version comes across as a bit gravelly, the tannins a little more pronounced. Scored for the main version. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023.HK$4,070.00 -

The 2019 Monthélie Clos Les Champs Fulliot 1er Cru comes from 0.9 hectares of vine. It was the second parcel to be picked because of its warm microclimate, yet I find more precision on the Les Duresses. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit and touches of dark chocolate and tar. There is more elegance and terroir expression on the Les Duresses this year.HK$2,840.00 -

Healthy dark red. Cool aromas of black cherry and stony minerality. Juicy and penetrating, conveying lovely definition and energy to its currant, mineral and spicy oak flavors. Finishes savory and long, with more refined tannins than Bouchard's bottlings from the Côte de Beaune. Yields on the Côte de Beaune were generally very low in 2014, noted winemaker Frédéric Weber, but the wines from the Côte de Nuits are more generous and more classic.HK$9,625.00 -

The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru is higher-toned, verging on glossy compared to its peers with some polished new oak that I feel is masking a slight shortfall in fruit concentration. The palate has a bold entry with mainly black fruit and saturated tannins (for the vintage). It is velvety smooth but just a bit "blocky" towards the finish where I am seeking more finesse and nerve. Not bad though and it deserves a couple of years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.HK$4,378.00 -

The 2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières is lovely, bursting with aromas of sweet berries, licorice and violets, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and succulent palate built around sweet, powdery tannins.HK$2,220 - HK$2,715

This a firm and pretty red with a solid tannin backbone to the medium body. Ripe fruit with some walnut, tobacco, and floral undertones. It’s long and flavorful. Balanced and firm. Classic style. Drink in 2025.HK$3,900.00 -

Absolutely black centre to this with a massively concentrated bouquet, thus far hiding the detail. Inky depths. I would like to see this again after racking. The wine is not destabilised on the palate and the concentration is certainly exceptional, fresher at the finish. There is certainly an awful lot of wine here: buy it if you want a wine for 25 years time! Tasted: November 2021HK$2,875.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)
Very dense purple, old vines on white marl, this usually needs picking later but not this year. Plenty of energy, to the dark fruited bouquet. Very intense, now raspberry and blackcurrant notes, lively finish. Medium plus length, this has some grace. Tasted: November 2021HK$2,620.00 -

The 2020 Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru has a lovely spicy bouquet with clove and white pepper scents infusing the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins, taut and crisp, quite spicy and grippy towards the finish. Good potential.HK$3,840.00 -
(6x75cl) 2000Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (88-91)
Red-ruby. Highly aromatic nose combines minerals, licorice, chocolate mint, spiced bread and tobacco. Fresh and intensely flavored but very tight; conveys an impression of finesse and strong acidity. Very ripe and chocolatey but shy today. Finishes long and subtle, with substantial fine tannins. Serious juice.HK$18,945.00 -
Vinous (89-91)
(made from purchased wine): Medium ruby. Aromas of blackberry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate. Sweet and fairly large-scaled in the middle, and a bit exotic, with soft flavors of redcurrant and spices. Finishes with substantial fine-grained tannins but could use more lift. Flashy wine, like lipstick, notes Prost.HK$13,320.00 -

Bright, deep red. Pungent, sexy aromas of strawberry, raspberry, cocoa powder and incense. Wonderfully fresh and gripping wine whose sheer sappiness and extract suggest a long and graceful evolution in bottle. But this beauty is also impossibly sexy today. Finishes vibrant and very long, with palate-dusting fruits, minerals and spices.HK$1,962.00 -
(1x75cl) 2014Vinous (91-93)
(aged almost entirely in one-year-old barrels, mostly from Chassin): Bright red-ruby. Dark raspberry, dark chocolate, medicinal clove, licorice and spices on the nose, complicated by cinnamon and blond tobacco nuances. Plush, round and seamless, showing lovely subtle spicy depth and a hint of chocolate to the very pure, inviting flavors of raspberry, mocha and minerals. Silky and aromatic in the mouth in spite of its obvious oakiness, and smooth on the finish. There's a good bit of Pinot Beurot here; Bouchard used to eliminate it from this wine but Weber is now including it for greater complexity.HK$980.00 -
