Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2014 Echézeaux Grand Cru, matured entirely in new oak, has a gorgeous black cherry, raspberry coulis and mineral-infused bouquet, coiled tightly at first but unfurling with each swirl of the glass. The palate is well structured, a Grand Cru with admirable backbone. There is patently impressive depth with multi-layered red and black fruit, edging towards something more rich and dense towards the persistent finish. Emmanuel Rouget was surprised when I opined a preference for his Cros Parantoux this year, so obviously he is a big fan. And yes, this is an excellent grand cru, yet it does not possess quite the same nervosité as the Parantoux.

Wine Advocate (93-96)The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru offers up aromas of dark cherries, cassis, baking chocolate, grilled squab, burning embers and violets. On the palate, it's full-bodied, broad and expansive, with a velvety and textural attack, a deep and layered core and a long, resonant finish. This is a rich and muscular Echézeaux that will reward keeping.

Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru, aged in 100% new oak, is tasted from two barrels as one is heavily reduced, while the other shows fine delineation: crushed strawberry, wild mint and loam. The palate is heavily reduced at first, quite dense and broad-shouldered, black cherries mixed with cassis, a little chocolaty towards the finish.

Wine Advocate (91-93)The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Village is matured in 30% new oak, slightly higher than the Chorey or Savigny-lès-Beaune. It has a tightly wound bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry fruit, fine mineralité percolating through with time in the glass, hints of wild hedgerow and cold stone tucked underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, brisk and breezing with a steely, focused finish that lingers long in the mouth. I appreciate the aloofness of this village cru, although I strongly suspect it will be less standoffish with three or four years in bottle.

Vinous (91-93)The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Village is matured in 30% new oak, although Emmanuel Rouget took this sample from a new barrel. It has a refined, pure nose, not powerful yet finely tuned, with subtle floral aromas. The well-balanced palate has a core of red fruit laced with blood orange and citrus peel notes that carry through to the lively, effervescent finish. I am deeply impressed by this Village Cru. Chapeau!

Burghound (89-91)Outstanding. Touches of herbal tea and the sauvage add breadth to the earthier and slightly cooler aromas of mostly dark berries. There is very good underlying tension to the lightly stony flavors that culminate in a compact, rustic and mildly warm finale. This is quite powerful for a Nuits villages and a wine that will need at least 4 to 5 years before it can be approached with pleasure.

Vinous (89-91)The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Village comes from Rouget’s four parcels in the north of the appellation. This has a pastille-like purity on the nose, dark cherries comingling with violet and light peony scents. The palate is well defined, quite structure, a little savory in style with black pepper on the structured finish. Afford this four or five years in bottle.

Vinous (88-90)The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Village comes across a bit muted on the nose at the moment, more tertiary in style compared to Rouget's other cuvées. The palate is medium-bodied and well-knit, quite fine tannins, not complex yet with a touch of sapidity on the finish.

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Village, matured in 20% new oak, has more complexity on the nose than the Chorey-lès-Beaune, featuring shimmering dark cherry and violet aromas that burst from the glass. On the palate there is a wonderful line of acidity and superb finesse, an achievement given the warmth in the latter part of the growing season. Superb.
