Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (97-100)First picked, 100% decorticated. “This is the best wine I have made in my life”. Rich noble imperial purple. All right, team, this really is it! “Tu le bois avec le nez, you drink it with your nose”. No question here. This completely works as there is not the slightest sensation of cooked fruit. No spitting. I don’t know what to say. Actually I was just formulating the words that this is the finest Echezeaux I have tasted in my life when Jean-Pierre interrupted to say that Michel Bettane thought the same! An intensely seductive lush red velvet fruit covering an entirely perfect bone structure. One of the wines of the vintage. Could be THE wine of the vintage. Tasted: November 2021 |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)5 Star Wine. An astonishing rich imperial purple colour. Possibly it wins in density over and above the Clos de Vougeot. It doesn’t stun me as much as last year because it is no longer my first experience! An all-enveloping dark raspberry, silky as well as lush, dotted with pepper, with an almost endless finish. Grapes beautifully grown and then seamlessly made. Drink from 2030-2040. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)100% mixed forests, to bottle in April. Fine mid purple. The nose is not so drop dead stunning as the Clos Vougeot but it is still impressive, and then the palate delivers yet more. Some rose petals, some vibrant deep red fruit, chiselled and intense at the same time, nuanced without latticework. Then a firm structure. Looks like becoming a great wine but under the cosh from the Clos Vougeot this year. But there is a breadth of fruit here nonetheless. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted: November 2023. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)A full purple with a ruby pink edge. Very classy and such delicacy after the robust Clos Vougeot. Little traces of roses, a soft beautiful raft of gentle graceful red fruits, silky yet with such a tensile strength. Does it knock me over as much as the 2020 – perhaps not quite as concentrated and of course I am now familiar with the phenomenon. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Burgundy | 1 | 89-92 (IB) | HK$4,425.00
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-92)A rich deep purple. the nose too is luxurious, with a touch of coconut as well. Totally fills the mouth but there is just a little more precision than the Chorey. The fruit and the coconut make me think of Lamingtons. As long as the coconut dies down this will be pretty impressive. Drink from 2025-2030. Tasted: November 2022. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-93)100% new wood, all from Tonnellerie Rousseau, done with Jean-Pierre’s specified toast. This bold move on the oak front has not influenced the nose too much. An intriguing mix of red and black, with the spicy florality of the pedicels very evident but also integrated. Oak shows up at the back, but will resolve with this fruit concentration. Drink from 2027-2031. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Burgundy | 1 | 94-96 (IB) | HK$14,000.00
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)100% new wood, to bottle in April. The wood comes from mixed forests, as Jean-Pierre thinks Tronçais doesn’t work here. A bright fresh crimson ruby. More floral more sensual, the early morning rose says Jean-Pierre. This is more quintessentially Vosne than the Brûlées, with a lifted and balanced flair, a mix of darked red fruits, avoiding the blacker side. White pepper spice becomes more apparent at the end. A thick velvet coat of fruit throughout. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023. |

Burgundy | 1 | 95-97 (IB) | HK$13,500.00
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-97)5 Star Wine. An even deeper purple. I thought it couldn’t get better than Les Brûlées, but it can. The fruit is a little darker, more raspberry than cherry, and there will soon be the lightest of chocolate notes. At this level the whole bunch clouds just add a nuance. This is more complex than the Brûlées, with a greater depth of fruit but could not be any more harmonious. Drink from 2029-2038. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Burgundy | 2 | 94-96 (IB) | HK$16,670.00
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)A deep bright purple. The nose has the characteristic (of Brûlées) smoky struck flint note to it, which adds complexity to the red fruit which is as abundant here as the other wines. Lush in the middle then a structure which tames the extrovert nature, a good point of acidity alongside ripe tannins, and some darker fruit to finish. Potentially extremely fine. Drink from 2028-2035. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)(5 Star Wine) Deep ruby crimson colour. At this end of the scale the power of the fruit and the vineyard character completely outweigh the vinification. 100% new wood (Tronçais) is invisible. Instead, we find the slaty and singed character of the vineyard, plus an astonishing wealth of fruit. A thickness of texture which is extraordinary. Quite stunning this year with the blood red depth of fruit. Enough acidity behind and exceptional pure as well as concentrated. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023. |

Burgundy | 1 | 94-97 (IB) | HK$12,240.00
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)5 Star Wine. Ruby purple with a pinker edge. Such an elegant nose. There is a little bit of the singed rock but it barely competes with the exceptional fine red cherry and raspberry bouquet. This could be his best Brûlées yet and that is really saying a very great deal. Sensational texture, unexaggerated fruit, just joyous and gorgeous. Grace personified. The only reason I could consider withholding the 5th star is because the En Orveaux cuvée is even finer! Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Burgundy | 1 | 91-94 (IB) | HK$13,980.00
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-94)40% new wood, December bottling. Far from the deepest in colour, but definitely not the least elegant either! Rose petals abound. A few fresh alpine strawberries too. This has remarkable tension on the palate and is almost as nuanced as an Echezeaux (at least as, Jean-Pierre thinks!). Certainly there is a gorgeous, almost glossy aftertaste. Highest pH. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: November 2023. |

Burgundy | 1 | 92-95 (IB) | HK$12,555.00
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)5 Star Wine. The village Vosne and the remaining cuvées all see 100% new wood. Glowing purple. Roses in early bloom. Goodness me this is so svelte on the palate with just some white pepper at the back. The fruit is at optimal ripeness, still red but with an additional generosity and the stems are perfectly integrated. A fractional saline note at the back adds an extra little zest. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Wine Advocate (91-93)Guyon walks the old-vine parcels that produce this cuvée a day or two before harvest, selecting grapes by taste and marking which vines to pick and which to relegate to the regular Vosne-Romanée. The ensuing 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Charmes de Mazières is outstanding, unfurling in the glass with a deep but reserved bouquet of wild berries, rose petal, cinnamon, incense and orange rind. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied and deeper, more concentrated and more layered than the regular Vosne, framed by fine chewy tannins that will need some time. It's a wine that transcends the vintage. |

Wine Advocate (89-91)Bursting with aromas of blackberries, cassis, spices, rose petals and orange rind, the 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Charmes de Mazières is medium to full-bodied, rich and chewy, with a muscular chassis of firm tannin and a reserved, introverted profile. Guyon hopes to bottle it without added sulfites. |
