Burghound (91-93)Ripe yet cool aromas include those of cassis, poached plum, an array of spice elements plus a whiff of the sauvage. The very rich and even bigger and more voluminous large-scaled flavors also brim with sappy dry extract before culminating in a balanced, powerful and lingering finish where a touch of bitter chocolate slowly emerges. This isn’t massive in the way that it usually is though it is borderline opulent, which is a descriptor I use very rarely with respect to the 2021 reds. |

Burghound (91-94)(from a .41 ha parcel). Reduction. The much bigger broad-shouldered flavors also possess outstanding density and power while exuding evident minerality on the precise, firm and very serious finale that delivers excellent length where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is usually the undisputed best wine in the range but in 2022, the Perrières may well give it a run for its money. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)Rich purple, an even colour throughout the glass. Robust red fruit. There is a fine depth of flavour and some class here, plump in the middle, juicy and long, filling the mouth again, while keeping a mineral fresh feel too. |

Burgundy | 1 | 16.5 (JR) | HK$3,370.00
Jancis Robinson (16.5)Mid crimson. Deep-fruited and much more perfumed than the straight village Nuits-St-Georges. A marked step up in finesse. Dry, finely chalky tannins. Sinewy but elegant with that perfume on the long finish. Impressive persistence. (JH) |

Burgundy | 1 | 88-91 (BH) | HK$3,000.00
Burghound (88-91)A subtle but not imperceptible application of wood can be found on the ripe and fresh aromas of poached plum, fennel and soft earth nuances. The rich, concentrated and palate coating medium-bodied flavors are shaped by relatively refined tannins on the lightly stony, punch and youthfully austere finale. Worth considering. |

Burgundy | 1 | 87-89 (VN) | HK$2,820.00
Vinous (87-89)The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Village offers sensual red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit on the well-defined nose. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins. An unashamedly approachable and malleable Village Cru with a rounded, plump finish. |

Wine Advocate (90-92)The 2016 Marsannay Clos du Roy was cropped at a reasonable 35 hectoliters per hectare with no problem of frost or mildew. It has a forward and quite impressive bouquet of raspberry, cranberry and a touch of blackberry, well defined if fairly straightforward. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, a nice touch of bitter cherry to counter that ripe, lush red berry fruit with a tang of cracked black pepper towards the finish. Great protential. |

Burgundy | 1 | 90-92 (VN) | HK$1,650.00
Vinous (90-92)The 2021 Marsannay Clos du Roy has a splendid bouquet, very pure and perfumed, quite floral in style. The palate is fresh on the entry with crunchy red fruit, a bit chalky, crisp black and red fruit with a vibrant, rather mineral finish. This is quite superb. |

Burgundy | 1 | 91-93 (VN) | HK$2,110.00
Vinous (91-93)The 2022 Marsannay Clos du Roy has a classy bouquet with beautifully defined black cherry and bilberry fruit, an underlying mineralité becoming more evident with aeration. The medium-bodied palate is fresh with finely chiseled tannins and impressive structure, yet finishes harmonious and pure. Bon vin. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)The 2023 Marsannay Clos du Roy had been racked one month before my visit and will continue aging in larger 600-liter barrels. This is understated, very poised and focused on the nose that unfolds succinctly in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, satisfying weight and a focused, quite structured finish. Maybe it doesn't quite have the ambition of the previous vintage, yet this is still a top-notch Marsannay. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Marsannay Es Chezots is one of the most impressive on the nose among Laurent Fournier’s cuvées with black cherries, cassis and briary aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins. There is a discrete marine influence, touches of oyster shell and sea salt on the finish of this splendid and sophisticated Marsannay. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)Rich deep purple, I do like the nose here. Laurent says it did not show so well earlier and is now only coming in to itself. He is looking at longer ageing. Huge stuffing to this yet entirely balanced. On the cusp of red and black, a little bit spicy and with excellent length. Tasted: November 2021 |

Burgundy | 1 | 91-93 (VN) | HK$1,710.00
Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Marsannay Es Chezots has a lively, vibrant bouquet with pure Dorset plum and bilberry scents, light iris petal aromas. Very detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiselled tannins, quite chalky in texture, perhaps a little compact but I feel this has something up its sleeve for later. Fournier's spiciest Marsannay. Great potential. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)The 2023 Marsannay Les Longeroies has a sensual bouquet with vivid red berry fruit, raspberry and wild strawberry, wilted rose petal and crushed stone emerging with time. It has exquisite delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, fine-boned tannins. This has more complexity than the Clos du Roy, fanning out wonderfully on the finish. Expect this to land at the top of my banded score. It is superb. |

Burgundy | 2 | 91-93 (VN) | HK$1,880.00
Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Marsannay Le Chapitre comprises a blend of 15- and 75-year-old vines. Interestingly, Laurent Fournier remarks that the younger vines performed better due to the superior rootstock. It has a gorgeous bouquet with dark cherries, blackcurrant and light violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very velvety in texture with an almost crystalline finish. Just a wonderful Marsannay from Fournier this year. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2019 Marsannay "Trois Terres" Vieilles Vignes has a dense bouquet with blackberry, Japanese nori and almost briny aromas. It gradually opens with more crushed stone scents coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, fleshy to the point where it disguises the structure underneath, leading to a tarry and very sustained finish. Just about as good as Marsannay gets. Superb. |

Burgundy | 1 | 90-93 (BH) | HK$2,650.00
Burghound (90-93)An agreeably fresh nose freely offers up its array of spicy and perfumed red berries, soft earth and a floral whiff. There is fine mid-palate density to the seductively textured, even succulent, medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the lightly austere, firm and balanced finale. This is lovely and worth considering |

Vinous (87-89)The 2017 Bourgogne Rouge, which comes from old vines in Vosne-Romanée, has a lifted cranberry and raspberry bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and slightly gourmand in style, leading to a light but quite persistent dark cherry finish. Enjoy over the next two or three years. |

Burgundy | 1 | 86-88 (VN) | HK$1,870.00
Vinous (86-88)The 2018 Bourgogne Rouge has a fragrant bouquet of dark cherries and raspberry scents, quite gentle in style. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and fine acidity. The 20% new oak lends a little weight toward the finish. This is definitely one of the superior generic red Burgundy wines you will find this year. |

Burgundy | 1 | 87-89 (VN) | HK$2,420.00
Vinous (87-89)The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge, which comes from the Vosne-Romanée appellation, has a well-defined bouquet of wild strawberry and raspberry aromas; there is something almost sedate about the nose. The pure, harmonious palate offers quite high-toned red and blue fruit. Sorbet-fresh toward the finish, with veins of blood orange. Very fine for its class. |

Burgundy | 1 | 87-89 (BH) | HK$2,850.00
Burghound (87-89)(from vines in Vosne). A fresh and distinctly earthy nose speaks mostly of various dark berries. The rich, concentrated and suave middle weight flavors possess unusually good depth and persistence on the balanced and moderately firm finale. This is an excellent Bourgogne and well worth considering. (87-89)/2024+ |

Burgundy | 2 | 86-89 (BH) | HK$2,480.00
Burghound (86-89)This is also aromatically extremely fresh with a slightly more elegant nose of just crushed red pinot fruit and a hint of anise. The sleek, delicious and nicely detailed flavors display a beguiling underlying tension on the lingering and balanced finish that is almost delicate. Lovely and worth a look |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (87-89)Attractive mid crimson purple. A little more reserved on the nose yet with swelling fruit across the palate, a little fresh pepper at the finish which just enlivens the wine and adds a mineral touch. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: November 2023. |
